Year #19…I am Mike and I live in South Central Mass, halfway between Providence RI and Worcester MA. I am a guitar based singer songwriter and my songs are mostly folk and Americana in nature, but I like to experiment and I like to collaborate, so FAWM is my opportunity to throw myself in the musical blender and mix things up. Great stuff has happened here for me!
In December 2024, I finished my most recent album, Light Still Shines The Same. You can see the album at mgutierrezmay66.bandcamp/artist/light-still-shines-the-same. To listen to my music via streaming, look for me under Michael Gutierrez-May. This single from last year’s FAWM is also currently treading the boards, created with Nadine DeMacedo and Andrew Russell Band: https://on.soundcloud.com/jihj2gDarpey6897Ew .
My email: [email protected] which is also the way to request a copy of my CD. Suggested cost is $10 on Bandcamp, but you can pay what you would like. Include your mailing address!

Always cool to listen to your songs, Tammy!
Came up with this. Let me know what you think.
"Beer (Desert Soul)"
(Sound of the Rain collab)
Such intense tooth pain lasting all damn night the rum the only plan no painkillers in sight five years sober ending so fast that first drink will not be the last.
Cue eight years of endless beers trials, setbacks, a few salty tears beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner this six-pack's gonna be a winner Friends made who can almost keep up with the endless thirst that has to sup
Beer like the sound of the rain My parched soul in unending pain Showing up drunk to work Stumbling 'round and being a jerk Surprised I wasn't instantly fired I guess I'll just pretend I'm tired Vodka, rum, bourbon, beer Absinthe, beer, beer, beer
Is this what my soul actually needs? Beer like rain in the desert Drunk again, bladder feeds Beer like rain in the desert
It lasted eight years this time Ending up with cheap boxed wine But then a hospital nightmare scare Time for sobriety, gotta be fair But I still remember the sound of the rain Light beer cans opening Cola might be just a little plain But now my desert soul can sing.
Now my desert soul can sing.
Good work, let me see what I can do with these. I might change a word or two. If I do change something, I'll send it back to you in an email. I will also send the MP3 to you for posting.
Hi Mike , great to hear you again!! Thank you for your kind comment. Maybe I’ll try for an album some day. Some days I like my songs. Some days not so much. I’ll have to try recording on the days I like them!
We've been paired for the random collab. I can do lyrics if you like? Do you have a topic in mind?
I usually list topics to get to for the FAWM month and two that I haven't gotten to are Off The Road and Sound of the Rain, which are both prompts from Fearless Week earlier in the month. If you have any ideas on one of both, we could roll from there and then I could do music for it.
Happy FAWMing!
Hi Mike, To answer your question about lyrics for our collab, the subject can be sci fi, but it doesn't have to be. I love silly nonsense words, so could you include some between the lines of your lyrics? (They can be the same every time if you wish. Or not.) To stay seasonal, would you like to write about the coldest day you've ever experienced and fill the story full of hyperbole? (If you have already gotten an idea for lyrics don't worry about anything I just typed.)
Hi Mary, If you send me your email address, I can send you back some lyrics. I like the idea of joining in on the Week #1 challenge to use made up words. My email is [email protected] . If you want to drop your email back by the replay feature, that will work also. Mike
I just got home and emailed you. Yay for lyrics!
Excellent, will check in tomorrow am.
Go get 2026, Mike!
Hello dear friend! Aren't we on year 20 now? :) Or maybe I can't math!
You are a year ahead of me!
Hi Mike! Good to see you here!
Hope you have a Great FAWM!
Hi Mike, hope you have a great FAWM 2026!
