Coral Gables

Challenge: MIXED EMOTIONSLiner Notes
This is another in the Song Cycle series, which would follow 3517 A Street. I don't think I fully appreciated the one year we lived in Coral Gables when my family moved to Miami. #songcycle #threeofus
Lyrics
We landed in Coral Gables When we came south from D.C. A palm tree-lined colony Ours was a small white house
If you lived in Coral Gables You could go to the Coral Gables Youth Center Like a YMCA, only better I learned gymnastics there
There was also a swimming pool Where my sister and I learned to swim It was called the Venetian Pool It still exists today
I went back to Miami 30 years later Coral Gables actually looked better than before In the 90's, all Cuban families lived there Before then, I really don't know
My sister and I ran away once We weren't really angry at our parents More of a protest event We got as far as the end of the block
We stayed in Coral Gables for one year Then we moved to West Miami Where we lived for two more years It was a different time

A set of nicely specific memories. I love the "It was a different time" ending; makes something straightforward feel deeper.
memories written in song...I love that!
My kids did something like that also: "My sister and I ran away once We weren't really angry at our parents More of a protest event We got as far as the end of the block"
Funny now I bet it wasn't at the time...nice wtite
