Liner Notes
Continuing the song cycle series, this time from where everything started in Southeast D.C. where my family lived until I was almost 7 years old. Anyone else out there also play kickball as a child? Sorry for the muted vocals, it was late at night and I might re-record this. #threeofus #songcycle
Lyrics
It was the very first place I remember A second floor apartment Looking out the window over the park The park with the kickball field
I remember the kickball games Rolling the ball across the plate Smashing it as far as I could Usually into someone's waiting arms
The fun part, looking back Was the part that was like dodge ball Hit you with the ball to get you out Or force you out at home
There were other memories Listening to baseball games On a transistor radio Across the river at D.C. stadium
There was also that small dog Came yapping at my heels Chased me upstairs into my apartment "He's terrified of dogs," they said.
I led a tricycle charge down a hill I don't know why I did that We made friends, then we left Only to return 60 years later' And it was still there.

Heck yea I remember kickball. It was the only thing I was half decent at haha. Then they kind of outlawed it because it was too violent ! Oh well. So good to hear you again, sounds great , it’s a good lyric, yes definitely record it with louder vocals ! Yikes. That bicycle was still there ? Crazy.
Not the tricycle but the apartment and the apartment complex, which at one point was overrun by gangs in SE D.C. Thanks for checking in, Nanci and very good to hear you also.
I love the nostalgic lookback in this song - such vivid images that I can totally picture what you're talking about, from the nipping dog to the tricycle charge. The simplicity of the phrasing and the choice to not rhyme any of the lines gives it an immediacy that I really like. And honestly I kind of dig the voice way back in the mix - it gives it an ethereal quality that fits well with the idea of memories floating back!
