Liner Notes

This is another chapter in the Three Of Us song cycle I am working on. The Roanoker song is also part of this song cycle. The song cycle will wind up being somewhere between 8-12 songs I think. #songcycle #threeofus

Lyrics

Years later in the Roanoke Valley Not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway We would meet at Victoria Station And celebrate there with a meal

We were sitting in a railroad car Sitting on a railroad track The food was good, the service good Light pouring through the windows

Bedford was not quite halfway Between Roanoke and Lynchburg Noted for its downtown charm And soldiers lost in World War II

I wandered around reading history plaques Histories of the local railroads Gateway to Smith Mountain Lake Vacation and tourist attractions

At the end of the meal, the cake would come out Knives, forks and dishes The waitress staff sang “Happy Birthday” To my mother, my sister and me.

For years it was an annual tradition For many, many years When my sister’s children were growing up We would say, “let’s meet at Victoria Station.” And of course, we did.

How wonderful to have an annual tradition that crosses generations. A beautiful song! I look forward to hearing the whole song cycle.

I think I've the wrong image in my head. I'm picturing a big city station, like Victoria (as sung about by the Kinks) in London or Manchester (as sung about by The Fall). But yours is more rural, I think.

Yes, this is a restaurant chain in Virginia and other places.

Geez Mike, this is so thoughtfully and gently done. I appreciate this story, this song, and you.

This is a beautiful song. I think the chord progression you chose really fits the lyric and enhances everything in a nostalgic way. <3 So so good to see (and hear) you here, Mike!!

Oh wow. That just paints a picture. Really lovely, Mike.

Virginia is so beautiful. Wonderful story telling and imagery. Beautiful guitar chords under your spoken word.

Very evocative lyrics here, and I really like the use of concrete images that paint a picture.
