Liner Notes
This is another one of the songs for the song cycle, a little closer to the present time for my sister Regina. #songcycle #threeofus
Lyrics
The news was a sudden jolt My sister had cancer Quietly lurking in her ovaries Discovered at Stage Four
No one had ever had cancer before Usually heart problems or asthma But there it was clear as day And she would need surgery
Discussing cancer treatment Contacting the Uva Couric Center Eval at the Couric Center Where the surgery would be done
And the surgery would be done But first, three rounds of chemo The cancerous mass removed Then three more rounds of chemo
Quiet for awhile But then the cancer returned To a place where surgery could not go All hopes placed on more chemo
Chemo again completed Waiting on her new CT Scan She said cancer will not break me But if it needs to, let it take me And I will gently say goodbye

I'm sorry to read about the reality of your sister's situation. Cancer is such a terrible journey. Your final lyrics "She said cancer will not break me/But if it needs to, let it take me/And I will gently say goodbye" really turned my heart over. I hope she will do well and I wish you all peace
Powerful, got me tearing up. I’ve lost a couple family members to cancer in the last few years. My mom too had to go through treatment. The calming slightly wobbly guitar helps to just listen and sink into it.
Absolutely remarkable Mike, and the spoken word delivery just has me leaning in throughout. Powerful.
Thank you for writing this. I am so sorry that you and your sister and family are navigating the cancer journey. This hits home. So much familiarity felt from these beautiful and discordant chords. Their backdrop with your spoken vocals carry so much emotion. The first line of the second verse - I feel that.
