So this is a base track for my side hip-hop project with my Midwest homies called x-ray teachers (we teach you how to see through things.) I accidentally listened to the pop-so-called-punk album by Machine Gun Kelly and was thinking to myself just how stupid the lyrics were. So negative and whiny and hateful and destructive. And wondered if I could bring some hope-core to a hip-hop folk party and create something new… who knows what to call this, hip-folk-hop? Hip-hope-core ? hip-hope? Folk-hop? Garbage?

Let’s cancel culture. Let’s cancel lies Let’s cancel cancer that infects our lives. Abolish greed. Abolish hate. Set aside our fears and collaborate.

And let’s listen. To the message And use discretion as we journey new directions. Emancipation. Dissolve the nations. I hear the sirens calling but they promise decapitation.

Round the corner, turn the page. Bottle up collective rage. Mazel Tov not Molotov. Destruction is as destruction does.

We’re here to party-fight for peace. Live in love and clarity. Man in the mirror looking at me. Can we be the change we wish to see.

nice. those backwards vocals really give me some ideas! music reminds me of an older japanese band i listen to called Dragon Ash. great lyrics. kudos.

Whoa! The backwards vocals terrify me but that's because I watched so much Twin Peaks in my youth. This is a great track -- the electronic claps and the rise of your voice -- so cool. "Destruction is as destruction does" is a great line.

X-ray Teachers is such a satisfying phrase. I like this feeling of listening and not being quite sure which pieces are words I recognize and which are syllables. It’s like I’m listening with my heart to the emotions instead of to the words.

You’re a natural at spoken word! “Mazel too, not Molotov” - thats a powerful one! I agree that we must seek to be the change we want to see. With art and music like this, you are totally living that sentiment out loud

Some great lines here - "Mazel Tov, not Molotov" "Can we see the change we wish to see". Love the backwards lyrics, and I wish I still had a functional reel-to-reel to play this in reverse to see what it says. And I think you've created a new genre with folk-hip-hopecore. Great post!

Travis, love what you're doing here! The noise, the hip/hope, and the turn into the warm, melodic second section. Esp. LOVE "Mazel Tov not Molotov" and "live in love and clarity". Great to hear you again!

This has got a great feel! I think you’re on to something here. I’d be happy to take a crack at writing some rip ribbity raps for one of the verses. If you like it you can use it, and if not, no pressure.
