That One We All Know
by @dr_griff
Liner Notes
The idea has been in my list since a circle at WorldCon a couple of weeks back, and the tune came to me this morning.
Lyrics
Capo 5, 4/4, up-beat strum
V1 G You know the song by the guy that sang it that one time G D The song that we all know D I’d know it again if I heard it D G I just don’t remember how it goes G That one song by the guy who sang it that one time G C Don’t you know the song I mean? C G It had a great chorus and a catchy tune D G Like every song we like has been
V2 I know this is like if we went to a bookstore And I asked for a book by name Not the name of the book but the name of the writer Aren’t they really just the same? You know, the Stephen King with the red-and-black cover I’m sure it won’t be hard to find And the clerks are ready to tell you They really don’t really mind
CHORUS 1 C G It’s the one we all know, we just don’t know the name D G We know how it sounds or it looks C G It’s not that hard to find it A D From all of these songs or those books C G It’s the one we all know, we will find it again D G It has to be somewhere near C G Do you have a chord sheet or a copy around? D G I’m sure someone has it here
V3 You know the movie we saw in the theater back when We all were in high school? The one with that hot famous actor and actress The performance was really cool And you know the scene that we all love to quote When we’re having a crazy day You know the one that I’m talking about Now what did that actor say?
CHORUS 2 It’s the one that we love, we just don’t know the line We know that it gives us joy It’s not that hard to remember it We’ve all known it from when we were boys And girls laughing at that funny line That everybody just knew Do you have the tape or the DVD? I’m sure someone will remember soon
BRIDGE D G It can’t be because we’re aging D G It can’t be we’re growing old A D I’m just trying to remember it A D And it’s making my brain run cold C G I’m sure we’ll all remember soon D E That thing we’re trying to find Am Keep on thinking, get it right Am D Before we lose our minds!
V4 It’s such an important memory now The song or the book or the show Why can’t we just remember it? Are our brains really that slow? That’s the problem with songs and with shows and with books There’s nowhere we can find them again Unless we remember the names that go With those lines of way back when
CHORUS 1
CHORUS 2
OUTTRO I’m sure someone will remember soon (Can anyone remember soon?) The song by the guy who sang it that one time Can't anyone remember the tune?

The not-breathing wasn't intentional :D But maybe I should make it intentional. I appreciate your feedback! :)
Wonderful singing, playing and rhythm. This is catchy and this is the perfect chord progression for this type of fun lyric.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your feedback. :)
This hits too close to home! A perfect circle song. I find the best booksellers and librarians do like this sort of challenge and sometimes come through with very little to go on.
Thank you, Jane! I hope this flies in circles when I get to LosCon. :)
Memory is such a weird thing. I can always remember useless facts, but never people's names. I know the chord progression but not the words to the song. While I have reached a certain age, this is not an age thing. This has been my story all through life. Bottom line - I feel right at home in your relatable song.
Yes, I know. I've had this problem my whole life as well. I'm constantly saying to my husband, "I need a word, one that means _____" and he'll usually have it right there for me. But my brain does not cooperate a lot of the time.
Good reason to have a spouse!
Delightful! Yes, verse two was my experience as a bookseller -- but it the cover is never the color the customer says. ;)
That was stolen from my husband, who used to work at a bookstore and got those requests every. single. day. :D
Hahaha so relatable!! “It’s that one song, by that one person, about that one thing”…usually how it goes. Loved your delivery, this was high energy and so fun
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. :)
A very familiar feeling. More and more, I become capable of describing things in great detail while searching in vain for the name.
A nice, bright, catchy -- dare I say 'memorable' -- song.
Ha! Thank you for the compliment, Phil. Much appreciated. :)
Thank you gor the stephen king book with the red & black cover. I had someone say once, if it helps, the letters are raised on the cover. Great funny, catchy song!
That line was your fault. I've heard you tell that story enough times :D Thank you, babe!
This song is gonna be your DAX song. Oh yeah, Griff wrote THAT song. This is definitely a keeper... and an earworm. It also shares a theme with this classic banger.
I have to ask - "DAX song"? Not a term I've heard before.
Thank you for the compliments and the video! :)
THAT song. Damn auto corrupt. Sometimes it changes words even after you've read them and they appear right.
Ah ha! Okay, that makes more sense now. :D
Haha, I enjoyed that a lot! We all know it though... that one... on the tip of my tongue...
Exactly! That one song that we all sang back in the day, right? :D
It only gets worse as you get older , coz none of your crowd remembers! entertaining song but very to the point! Nicely done
Oh, I've had this problem all my life - it's just that now, I can blame it on my age. :D
OMG! This is me! What a great write! LMFAO!! Love the composition, performance and production! Great melody and lyric! Thanks for starting my day with smile!
I'm glad you liked it!
Lawl. I....grok this a little too much. It has the same vibe as "I am your brother's sister's uncle's former roommate"....or....whatever that movie line was (touche), except it's about remembering what the heck the source material was for references. I like how you purposely didn't breathe very much in the run-on bits, the delivery is part of the silly charm here.
