Part II: Transmission
by @sapient
Liner Notes
Part 2 of my triptych of songs based around the same three notes, this time inspired by the hypnotic songwriting of the Cascadian black metal band Wolves In The Throne Room. I was really challenging myself to sit with this one and let it evolve, rather than have it rush to a conclusion too soon. As a result there are some things that happen in the music here that I've never done before and I really like đ
(Unfortunately, cos the song is so damn long, I had to step down the bitrate from 192Kb/s to 112 Kb/s when printing the MP3 đ˘)
Lyrics
Fractured frames A sentinel of the old days Lost and lost again Awake, but screaming still
Feral architect Of spaces Hallowed and hollowed By rivers of time Yearning for starlight Clasps at naught but lies
Cascade of temptation A lichen of desire Flickers and catches Conflagration is at hand
A power pulls From beyond the veil Hooks catch in spectral flesh
What beckons can be beckoned What calls can be called Ancient transmission These wounds Are unleashed

I really love that you gave this one space to travel! So much to love here. Lyrically I super did "feral architect / of spaces / hallowed and hollowed" -- it's an intriguing image! Seriously epic. I'm impressed by how you kept it cohesive but varied enough that I didn't end up checking out at any point. I am loving this triptych!
I like that you let it breathe at the start. And then with the birds later on! I had to take my headphones out and make sure I wasnât hearing them chirping outside! The deliberate pace between intensity is so incredibly effective to frame and elevate the vocal and frenzy! What âhookedâ me from the lyrics is âhooked in spectral fleshâ - that was the most intriguing visual. Second place being âwounds unleashingâ - could be blood, could be magic, so many possibilities⌠Excellent work!
I think lowering the bitrate actually adds some lovely grind to the outputted sound - "go for 64' (kps)' (and put it on a t-shirt) j$
I don't have headphones on me right now, but OMG this is still hitting so hard it's like a horse kicked me in the chest! Edit: Holy shit that was epic.
A Sapient Symphony. It's got everything I wanted and more. It's like a flowing river of beautiful destruction.
This is a real juggernaut of a song. It takes its time to get moving, but once it's under way, you know that nothing is gonna stop it until it gets where it wants to go. It definitely benefits from you letting it take as much time as it needs on the journey, too. Classic lyrics. Powerful stuff.
Ah you gave me time to prepare for the onslaught but i know its coming - and here it is! i like the step down and back up again, By the end those drums are ingrained in my head! Nice
Love the way this one develops and sort of ebbs and flows between reflective and full on. Great playing as ever and very surprised that this is over 11 minutes long. It doesn't drag for a second! Very lyrical too.
