Liner Notes

#zuzai #progressive-rock #ChapmanStick #Mellotron #Odd-time-signature #self-indulgent-twaddle

Yes, it's time to dig out the #e-Bow, indulge my #prog proclivities, and write something in 7/8, because reasons. This one would probably have taken much less time if Ableton hadn't kept crashing on me...

Lyrics

Inconsequential So deferential Self-referential I'm workin' here!

This excursion's revealing Introversion's a good thing

No room for deviation Work with the limitation All things in moderation But still wild-eyed

Preferential And residential Somehow tangential but less severe

It's no exaggeration I'm stuck for inspiration Stilted articulation and quite tongue-tied

So much potential Quite existential Transsubstantial But always clear

Will I find vindication? In this expostulation? Or just annihilation? I can't decide

I love how much variation you got from that upwards climb, going between spiralling chromaticisms and the simpler, lower-down part of the chorus. Felt very intriguing and disorienting!

Ohhhh...e-bow. I used to have one. Maybe I still do somewhere. So much fun, that thing. Love to hear somebody else using it.

First association: "Always Crashing In the Same DAW"

I saw the title and, boy howdy, can I relate so I have to give this one a spin.

Those angular chord climbs are really uncomfortably refreshing. By which I mean they pull and stretch away from the ordinary and perhaps that's also why it's refreshing to hear. Sort of a musical equivalent of wearing someone else's glasses and seeing the world focused just a bit differently.

That opening riff is reminding me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it, but it hooks right in and keeps me engaged.

It's always a treat to hear the Chapman & the e-bow. Such a nice pair of sounds.

Oh! And I learn a new vocabulary word in the hashtags. Nice!

I looked up the e-bow. Pretty cool! There's a nice rhythm to the lyric that is matched by your composition on the track. It all comes together. I like the building waves of sound that then fall and build again.

Good proggy fun. I found myself nodding to the odd time and enjoying the oddly swirling melody. Glad you shared this self-indulgence!

Every once in a while, you have to indulge yourself with a little "self-indulgent-twaddle." I have to admit that I absolutely could not create anything in 7/8, so my hat is off to you for this current success. What's next?

[pic]

This puts me in mind of Hoopshank -- he would have loved it. It's fantastically intricate and off-kilter while being completely catchy. I'm enjoying the dissonance a lot. The sesquipedalian approach to the lyrics makes delicious lemonade out of not knowing what to write.

Love a bit of 7/8 and this tune really makes a virtue of it. The grunting heavy guitars in the mpre melodic second part are a genius counter point to the opening figure. But its that first rising chromatic bit I like best. Those guitars have such a creepy vibe, like two spiders crawling over each other on a wall.

Well this is rather glorious! Thank goodness for self-indulgence. When music like this pours it, it's WELL worth it 😀

I really like the C part (No room for deviation...) and I'm a sucker for the Chapman Stick! Such a cool instrument. More odd meter!

[pic]

Yasss mixed meter! And cool AF chord ascension!! It’s a bit spooky or deranged, I like the edge. Love those fuzzy guitars around “introversion” - and whatever that countermelody synth is just past that - very very neat!! Ethereal reverb and harmonics in the solo section give everything nice breathing room before the unsettledness comes back. What a great listen!

[pic]

Super interesting! Love the sonic changes and the sort of askew feeling I get listening. Also loved that part after "wild eyed" that sounds like it sucking you deeper.. I always love bits like that. It reminded me of the verse part in Porno For Pyros Tahitian Moon. This is different in a great way but, made think of it. :)

A lot here to like - starting with the 7/8 time signature and the Chapman stick. Well produced with some unusual sounds and chord changes. The transition at 2:15 is great. Hypnotic.

@b3nut

I really love the wordplay here and the ascending chord progressions. Killer Stick work! This was a fun listen!

Those one and two word near rhyme contrasting lines are really hypnotic and the Chapman stick is so evocative.
