Going Nowhere
Liner Notes
They say you have to write a bunch of crap songs before a good one comes along. Well, this is one of the paving stones on that route. But, we're under time constraints, so the not-so-great count towards the desired total.
It started as a line or two that I thought would be a cruel breakup song. Then the muse decided it was a matter of changing choices along with a little seduction.
Lyrics
Roll your lipstick back in the tube, honey You’re going nowhere with me Adjust your expectations Don’t expect to be fancy free Kick your dancing shoes to the side, honey You’re going nowhere with me Struttin’ your stuff is over That’s my dating guarantee
You’re not going anywhere with me So get that off your mind You have to be aware, you see There are better ways to unwind
So come up to the top of the stairs, love You’re going somewhere with me Take off your shoes and follow To the second floor wait and see Park your inhibitions at the door, girl The sheets are crisp and fresh There’s nothing like devotion And the touch of your caress
You’re not going anywhere with me So get that off your mind And now you are aware, you see This is a better way to unwind
You’re not going anywhere with me So get that off your mind And now you are aware, you see This is a better way to unwind

Thanks very much for listening, Nancy. Glad it brought back memories about your parents.
Very good twist with the story in this song. I thought you were taking this in a different direction at the start. Very nice.
Thanks for giving Going Nowhere a spin. Frankly, the change in direction surprised me too!
Oh, that IS a clever change from what I was expecting from the first verse. Great writing job. And, of course great music and vocal over those lyrics. ❤️
Thanks for listening, Jerry. When I was writing it, I couldn't think of any more snarly things to say, so the seemingly nasty stuff of the first half became the reason to substitute a more intimate solution.
“A better way to unwind” - my favorite line, gives the listener and subject permission to just be carefree. I appreciate the breezy vibes to go with that urging too!
Thanks for taking my tune for a spin!
I want to listen to this in a '58 Chevy convertible with tuck and roll upholstery. Blasting it to the drive-in. Great vocals, and nice "Jordannaires" break.
If you can find a '58 Chevy, go for it! Make the neighbours grit their teeth. I'm not sure the Jordanaires would appreciate the comparison, but it made my day. Thanks!
(Actually, I should tell you about the Jordanaires section. On one side of the stereo field is a SoundIron Kontakt instrument called Questionably Barbershop. The other side is Epic Choir, one of the Originals series from Spitfire.)
I think you may have written this one off too early, it’s really very charming and clever. “lipstick back in the tube” is a great opener, and the way you move it from a sort of self-deprecating/anti-romance thing to something rather more racy is deftly done. Cool solo interlude too. Really enjoyed this one, Paul!
Thanks very much, David. You've made me feel better about the tune.
This is catchy and kind of campy in the best fun and creative way! I really like it! No crap here, just a great song!
Ah, thanks. Liz. At least it got me on the Sprint scoreboard.
I mean whatever you might think, this was pretty catchy and there's plenty of humour in here... so I hope you don't consider it entirely a throwaway! The muse works in curious ways after all...
Thanks, Edwin, for your kindness. I'm glad it didn't fall flat for you, but I doubt if I will release it to the streaming world.
I like the lyrics here. The muse kept everything flowing and moved you into a good space. Great guitar work as well! BTW - I know you collab a lot, and was unsure as to who was doing the lyrics, but I gathered it was you from your liner notes. 🙂
Thanks for checking it out, Matt. In FAWM events, I steal lyrics from the best. (With permission, of course.) The lyrics on this one, however, are my own fault.
An entertaining ditty that takes an unexpected turn which shifts the earlier lines on their head, leaving the listener wondering if in actuality, all things considered, that the protagonists were 'unwinding' by engaging in some transcendental meditation perhaps or something more intimate? Ommm...
Thanks for taking a chance on my first ditty of the sprint. I doubt if it will ever go beyond the FAWM halls, but at least I got something done.
The beginning sent me into a reverie about my parents first date, where my dad told my mom to go wash all the make up off her face if they were going to go out together. I liked the way the line changed meaning across the song.
