Update for 2026: Looking forward to getting 14 songs up this month. I forgot just how hard and time-consuming that is--and I am exhausted right now over rough drafts of preliminary lyrics. (I'm always a "lyrics first" guy).

Update for 2025: Just noticing I didn't do one last year (2025). Had fun though--despite it being...quite a year

Update for 2024: Actually, doing more than dabbling now. FAWM has been life-changing. Having some limited "success" on SPOTIFY with some of my songs. Have a good FAWM folks!

Update for 2023: So far, covid-free...BUT got that darned RSV thing and it has hung around for the last 6 weeks or so, so don't expect my vocals to be quite as...mellifluous.

Update for 2022: I'm still alive! "Heartbreak is my brand™"

Update for 2021: Had a successful 50/90 (my second one completed!), so FAWM should be a piece of cake, right? Hope to stretch my wings genre-wise, per usual. Looking forward to listening to the rest of you.

Update for 2020: Health problems, including NO VOICE so far (writing this on 2/6). I've written lyrics for 6 songs while I wait to recover, so I THINK I'll eventually get my usual 14 in. Stay tuned...

Update for 2019: I'll be putting out my 3rd album (pop) shortly after FAWM 2019 closes, and a 4th (country) album later this year. Going to try and do about half my usual "country" fare this time around and half R&B. FAWM has been life-changing! Good luck to all!

UPDATE FOR 2018!! I have an album out now--all proceeds go to KIVA.org to provide microloans for educ

five years of tides is a variation on something from the odyssey in which five years seemed to go by in the passing of one day. and all that remained of those five years was buried under five years of sand building up from the incoming tides.

I just watched NUREMBERG yesterday, and so I was in a WW2-themed song mood anyway...especially what with living in the Good 'Ol USA. Interesting collaborative process on this one, guys. Loved it! ❤️

[pic] @billwhite51 just now when i was 10 years old, i saw the movie judgement at nuremberg and some catholic kids on the playground at school told me i was going to hell because the church had condemned the movie on the grounds that it mentioned the unmentionable..sterilization of the female. when danny sent me his initial lyric for collaboration, it had no mention or reference to germany. i thought it referred to modern day protest marches, so was surprised at what the son finally turned out to be about. it is much better, and makes sense, in the final version, although i would have written my part much different had i known it was directed at the hitler rallies. but the fact that i make no allusion to 1939 germany actually makes the song less didactic that it may otherwise have been.

with the deterioration of the voice, we have to find new ways to use it. joan baez is a perfect example of this. she cant just open up and cut loose any more. she has to think about every note she hits. and so do i. so in a way it can lead to better singing. regarding my song, i hear a lot of AI vocals in fawm this year, and when it happens, i dont want to hear it.

HI, Jerry, Glad to see you back here. Thanks for your kind comments on "I Know A LIttle Bit." That brought me here to your page where I see I have some exploring to do.

i did a chapbook of poetry, but i ended up rewriting most of the poems into songs. never wrote a book of lyrics but had a couple published in a literary journal. i have been encouraged to put a book of lyrics together, but i dont think they read that well without the music. in the same way that a poem has to be rewritten to work as a song, a song would have to be rewritten to work as a poem.

thank you for your comment on strays, but i didnt lift that phrase. i invented it. but i googled it just to make sure it hadnt pre-existed and could not find it occurring anywhere. all i found was this, and i had not read it previous to writing the song. Stray animals, particularly dogs and cats, are a prevalent, challenging aspect of rural life, often stemming from abandonment,, inadaquate pet management, or simply losing their way. These animals face harsh conditions, including high mortality rates, lack of food, and, in some cases, the need to form packs to survive in the countryside. . im glad you liked the song, but it is not about stray dogs and cats, but about poets, a vanishing breed.

Hi Jerry! Good to see you again. Thanks for the comment.

thank you for you whale comments. the toenail on a face line was inspired by a bit of lit crit that i was reading in which the author posited that a poem doesnt have to mean anything, the words just have to be in the correct place. so i thought of the examples of words being in the wrong place like the toenail on a face as well as inverting the lines from the poem home is the sailor home from the sea and the hunter home from the hill. ..thinking that one does not need to know what the poet is getting at when he writes home is the hunter home from the hill butt hat the words are in the correct places, whereas a hunter being home from the sea...well obviously sea is the wrong word.

Hey Jerry - wondering if you’ve tried Celemony’s new “Tonalic” product. Here’s to a fun FAWM!

[pic]

I have watched a number of videos about it, but probably won't go there unless the price comes way down because I already have Band in a Box which does most of the same thing.

Was just wondering if you’ll be posting this year and then I saw your update. Pretty quiet around here without you.
