Fingerpaint & Glue (A Mini Louvre)
NSFWLiner Notes
#indie #heartonsleeve I've been sitting on this idea for the better part of the month. It's the dearest to my heart, so I wanted to a great job. I have a jumble of lyrics, chord change ideas, and a desire to kick it into rocking gear. Given my shitty gifts and tendency to procrastinate, I'll leave it here. This is the emotional core of the song. (My kid is a great artist actually, not that it matters.) I hesitate to use that "enough" line, as it's a cliché. But you know what, we're talking about unconditional love here, so...
Lyrics
I had but one wish That you would see your shitty gifts as enough Because it was true Because you...are enough I built this mini Louvre Filled with finger paintings, glue, and fluff Is that a moose, a man, a duck? Who cares? When the subject matter’s love It's more than good enough
Well let’s go now! I love you! May it never be in doubt There's nothing here to prove
The Mona Lisa’s fine If you like to stand in line Watching yellowing varnish getting yellower still

It's beautiful, so pure in a way, nothing unnecessary. The word "enough" seems central to this song, as it is, or from what I pick up from it, I'm glad you kept it. I like how it ends, with the music halting to "getting yellower still" as to illustrate the utter dryness of the real Louvre in contrast to the handmade (out of love) mini. And then a little encore with strings. That "desire to kick it into rocking gear" sounds interesting too, though!
Gorgeous love song! The lyrics are bursting with great images (moose, man, duck, Mona Lisa, finger painting, glue, etc.). I like the bass and organ touches. Be careful who you play this to -- they just might fall in love with you.
That el guitar sound! Great Louvre vocabulary. Really nice things going on here. Heartonsleeve every day all day for me (IRL at least).
It’s the journey that matters not the destination. Art is supposed to be fun, at least that’s what I’ve always believed. Enjoyed the little tribute to unconditional love.
Thank you for letting your heart show. We live in a world now built on not celebrating love and happy feelings. The only way to fix it is to make awesome, happy songs. Thank you for doing your part. This song is perfect. The emotion in the voice, the atmospheric vibe and just enough guitar to hold it together. Well done.
Anything worth doing is worth doing badly. Neither a child's craft nor this song are done badly .
cliches are only clichéd when they are expressed in the same way to the same effect. your use of "enough" has a different effect each time you sing it. for me, your "enoughs" are the highlight of the song (although nobody has encountered the mona lisa quite like this)
A love song for your kid from deep of your heart! Beautifull! ♥️ I think there‘s nothing like the love for a child.
Beautiful. There's some kind of swelling thing at the end that I just wanted to hear more of - maybe using it as a transition to a heavy part using that? Or not, as it's full of heart (on sleeve) - which can get passed over but why not share love while you can? Which you did. ❤️
Dude. I love the sentiment here! I love a good song about love. That guitar tone is legit! Great job. You are enough.
It's time I commented on some Danny. The Mona Lisa is over-rated, as is Venus de Milo (though she's interesting from behind: the Venus, I mean). 'Yellowing varnish' is a great as a way of saying it's just glue and fluff, who cares? But glue and fluff when someone does care is an art treasure for the gallery of the heart. I felt listening (three times) that the real (slightly imperfect, yay!) guitars and your real voice came through. Heart on sleeve stuff. Lovely.
