Haunted Lawnmower
by @troubadette
Liner Notes
I was trying to get a decent vocal take for my collab with @negasi and getting increasingly frustrated with the weird sounds coming from my next-door neighbour. When I complained in the Slack chat, @carleybaer said I should just use it in a song. So this is her fault.
Lyrics
I’m trying to record a song Lay down a sweet melody Record something that sounds alright But noise of the neighbourhood just won’t let me
Can’t get a clean vocal track with the Strange sounds coming from next door It’s the weekend, so I get you’re busy but I Haven’t heard a sound like this before
It’s a banging and a clanging And it’s kind of metallic Like you’re putting up a tent in the rain But it’s not raining And you’re not camping And I’m trying really hard to explain
Is Your lawnmower haunted? I’m pretty sure It shouldn’t sound like that Is Your lawnmower haunted? Thought I heard a crunching sound Did you mow over a cat? All of your noise is going on too long So I’m just gonna have to use it in a song But I still wanna know what’s going on What’s going on with your lawn?

I wasn't ready for the "Did you mow over a cat" line! What a great way to turn lemons into proverbial lemonade. Excellent, especially the crash at the end!
You did so well! A lawnmower would distract me so much that I couldn't even stick to a beat. Guess that lawnmower is haunted. Does it explode?!
I can relate to the fun lyrics! I always have to remember the Thursday leaf blower! “Is your lawnmower haunted?” Is my new favorite line. Well done on the melody and vocal performance too.
I had to give this one a listen because I was watching when the tale originally unfolded (this is going to become a trope, isn't it? "I was there on Slack when...") This is brilliantly done, and the ending is exactly, disturbingly right. Brilliant!
Bahaha this is a great use of an annoyance! That lawnmower is definitely haunted.
Ha ha! This is really good. The cat part made me LOL. I loved the stanza about putting up a tent in the rain. Up from the ashes grow the roses of success
I love how the music starts right out of the found sound backdrop. Just kind of appears like a bee flying into the scene. I like how you kind of relate the jarring of the unwanted noise/sounds by singing so lovely and relaxed over the offending intrusion of growly grass eating machinery. Self referential lyrics work so well for this. Love the ending, too. Perfect.
That is so relatable. It’s the same story over here every single time. Especially on that first nice, sunny day in February. All of a sudden, everyone starts sawing, hammering, or chopping wood. It’s fine if it’s just for a minute, but when it drags on and you’re trying to record, it’s super annoying. I love how you captured that frustration in a song. Great listen, funny ending.
Ahahahaha totally worth it!! Did someone take that lawnmower out back and shoot it at the end?? Honestly though, this is a really nice song considering the circumstances. Bravo!!
🤣🤣🤣 Congrats on overcoming the irritation and leaning in to it! Also, what was that noise at the end? Did it explode? 😬
I genuinely don't know.
If it is haunted, the ghost is probably a cow perpetually in heat. This is so delightfully jazzy and fun, I love pretty much everything about this. Love the rhythm on the last part, too. Incredibly catchy groove.
