Stuck In The Vortex

Liner Notes
Finally, another song! I'm traveling a lot this month, which is not ideal for FAWM, but very ideal for escaping the northeast winter. Due to the enshittification of travel, I was only able to bring a #ukulele and my #zoomr4.
These words came to me while I was sitting at the gate, waiting for a ground crew. Then in line to get de-iced, and finally takeoff. My father has always referred to flying as being "in the vortex". There are rules to the vortex such as: Time does not exist in the vortex. You must yield to the vortex. Etc.
I rarely write lyrics first but want to try doing it more. I had no idea what the melody would be when I came up with them. I found the chords sitting on the beach with the uke and even pulled off a #keychange in the bridge!
I'm not super stoked on the production. Maybe I need to transpose the whole thing down a few steps to put it more comfortably in my range. But hey, happy to have another one done!
Lyrics
Sitting at the gate Waiting for a break I’m strapped inside a tube Being forced to sit and wait
Time does not exist You must be pacifist Just quell the inner rage And don’t resist
Stuck in the vortex Dead cerebral cortex Suspend all discomfort and relax
Hearing groans and creaks If this metal tube could speak Is it crying out in extacy Or expressing its displeased
What’s one more delay? Just wait another day Plane is running late And there’s chaos at the gate
Chorus
Push me back Taxi me Spray me with de icer Engine check let er rip
Chorus

🧠 Hah, thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Really interesting concept, love the lyrics so much! the surreal vibe of the verses works well with the chorus being the "give into it" call. Love it.
Great ukulele tone on this! Amazing that you could do this with your limited equipment. I can also relate to the context!
Thank you! I used some of the Zoom R4’s onboard effects. The rhythm ukulele track uses a chorus effect and the “lead” track uses a preamp with a little bit of drive + tremolo.
I genuinely hate being stuck in a plane waiting for takeoff myself. I feel this song viscerally.
Thanks! It was a fun exercise to channel that feeling into a song.
I could see playing this over earbuds while waiting for my plane to board. I think it would calm me down. Maybe they should just contract with you to play it overhead. Love those guitar stylings, too.
Thanks! It’s all tenor uke :)
Nice!
i love this! harmonies are really great and the softness of your vocals is really beautiful with the melody. nice job!
Thank you!
Ha - I know that feeling all too well. It's been seven years since I flew anywhere and I really don't miss air travel even slightly. "Stuck in the vortex / Dead cerebral cortex" is absolutely priceless.
