To Hope / An die Zuversicht
Liner Notes
Our first collab this FAWM took awhile because my mic broke down last Friday ... so I started FAWM with 3 poems/lyrics. One of them we put to music today! After I received this wonderfully spares guitar track from Pennyfeather I recorded my vocals in one take. It fits perfectly - as nearly always!
Hope you like it!
Lyrics
(1) Franz Kafka
To Hope
"Happiness is greatest when it is smallest" (1) you say, and fold my courage small enough for me to carry.
You speak softly.
Not loudly like hope, which promises.
But like someone dear, who sits beside me and whispers:
We can stay!
In your eyes there is no today, but a tomorrow that can breathe.
You are a window in the early day!
Yet without an answer, but open!
You are not a loud hope!
Stay with me! Stay as a stance in my movement! In the midst of trembling, as a quiet yes, you are there and remind me that I can stay!
(1) Franz Kafka

I love the lyrics(having to read the English translation). They are what I've been pondering today, and encourage me to keep going. I also love the multilingual aspect. It adds depth to the challenge(and I'm glad i'm not the only one to write in 2 languages).
The term “ Kindred Spirits “ is close but does not delve deep enough to describe your duo with Pennyfeather. There is this depth to your work Andrea, and you know I recognized it immediately. 😊 I hope you know that I am sincere in my admiration 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this heart warming comment! 🙏♥️
I think this works incredibly well as is, with just guitar and vocals. The whispery nature of it is one of its strengths. The lyrics are amazing as well. Nice work, both of you!
Thank you! 🙏
Ah, thanks for saving me a trip to Google Translate! Lovely song--and a great collaboration (including Mr. Kafka in the collaboration). ❤️
Thank you, Jerry! 🙏
I'm so happy that these words got the ttg treatment. They stood up quite nicely on their own, but I love how the guitar creates both atmosphere and rhythm, accenting the words. I could imagine this going longer, with drums coming it, getting really loud before stepping down to a whisper. The vocal is so softly beautiful, and powerful too. I want to stay with this for a little while
Wow this works so fantastically together! Hope coming out of darkness like we crawl from winter into the light. I'm glad it got some music. I love your voice as always, and the sparseness in the guitar really helped the words shine, so soft but with a hidden edge, like a knife under a silk cloth! It's art like this that makes FAWM so good.
I’m happy you did this collab. It turned out really well. The innovative guitar accompaniment suits the style of the vocals and the poem itself. There are FAWMers and unique FAWMers with their own style. You two are an example of the latter.
Good combo of excellent talents.
Cool whispery tone to your voice, and that guitar track is a great match. The way the phrasing ebbs and flows separately between voice and guitar gives a spaciousness to the whole soundscape I find compelling.
Ah, here's the musical setting of your lyrics. Beautiful guitar playing and intense vocals
Great to hear the mic is fixed! and the deadly duo are back together. Even just a guitar track screams TTG and yup your gentler vocal style sits well on it . the words of course speak for themselves. Nice to hear you back!
The surreal vocals are so beautiful in my headphone. Perfect fit with the guitar. Brilliant collab!
I absolutely love the lyrics, and the guitar really sets the mood. Great collab!
Love the arrangement on this---the thumping bass and those gentle, raspy vocals. Amazing build from the source material
Very cool use of the Kafka quote. What a great collab. Your lyrics are always super interesting. I am a fan!
This is so poetic, like silk and velvet caressing the ears!
