Liner Notes

I combined the #fakeit challenge to write a melody around @elainedimasi 's lyrics and chords with the #uglytrack challenge to record it quick and dirty, and post it as a one-take audio track. So here you go!

I did not listen to any of the other interpretations of this first, so now I'm excited that I can do that. EDITED: it turns out I DID listen to one first, but I hadn't seen the Fake It thread yet, so didn't realize that it was that when I listened, so I'd forgotten. :)

Thanks for the lovely lyrics and challenging progression, @elainedimasi !

Worked nicely on Low G concert #ukulele

Lyrics

Lyrics and chord progression by @elainedimasi

inconsequential ghosts; small ghosts ghosts that cling to legs of tables mediant ghosts - sulky ghosts ghosts who'd haunt new statuettes if they were able

racing shades have made my head a schoolyard hiding, tagging, taunt(ing) (dis-)spirits make my soul hard...

never-married ghosts; winding ghosts ghosts that wring a mumbled fable from my memory quisling ghosts: filed ghosts. ghosts to sweep up after, haunt the office empty

sleeping shades with one eye open after-hours schoolyard never graduating this seems - too hard

Lovely gentle flowing take on the FakeIt lyric. Really lovely movement and melody.

Thank you so much! I appreciated the challenge to find the melody here!

I love this - it is definitely a cousin of my version - but so different at the same time!! I like the uke choice, I didn’t read closely enough the first time and assumed it was a baritone, but now I see it has a low G. Does it have 5 strings? Your vocals amazing and effortless all once, so easy to listen to! Great stuff 😃

Thanks very much. I did do a handful of takes to find the melody, just kept recording til I got it. The uke is an Ohana Pineapple Spalted Maple (laminate) Concert with four strings. I might have had baritone there first, as a copy paste error, and edited that.

Very cool! An Fmaj7 on low uke is nice and crunchy (as the cellist I play with likes to describe dissonance). I wish my G to Asus2 section flowed as nicely as yours.

That’s part of what drew me to recording this lyric. I love an F major seven. Even more on high G tuning. That Asus2 was my least favorite, though. I never choose that chord. 😉

@savvyaz

Yay!! I’m happy you jumped in on this! I just turned mine in today as well. I love how you sing and play! Nice job.
