Inconsequential Ghosts

Liner Notes
I had one of those days, and after getting a too-late dinner, sat down to try to get my head into writing a song. lt wasn't happening, so I went over to the #fakeit challenge and copied Elaine DiMasi's lyrics and chords. After looking up the G/A, and playing through the chords, I tweaked them just a bit. The most dramatic change was using Dm7 instead of F--but when I was younger, and could not play bar chords, I used Dm7 as a cheater's F, so that doesn't seem like a stretch to me.
This is just me and my guitar; below is the footnote about what the song came to mean to me as I sung it. But it is a footnote--I suggest listening to the song first.
I'm not sure who the POV character of this story is. Perhaps a historian or anthropologist documenting one of the many disasters, natural or manmade, that are a part of our story, as a species. There have been too many of both, and most of the manmade ones were deliberately covered up in the hopes that the dead would be forever forgotten. Well, these ghosts, at least, someone is remembering, and doesn't think they are inconsequential at all.

I'm pretty sure, having done more than one of these, that the goal of a good fakeit lyric is to use some cool imagery while leaving a lot of room for interpretation, so each composer/performer can fill in the meaning and mood with the music.
Love your ghosty vocals here, with all the layers. I feel all the ghosts you are singing about, gathering around.
This turned out so good!!! I love your layered vocals and your take on understanding the story. Beautiful instrumentation as well.
You've done a great job imbuing an ethereality to the music, perfect for these words 💚
Ha, I get you about "cheater" chords. When I makes changes to a FakeIt, I like to pretend that the fake sheet is wrong (they so often are!), and I found the actual chord they played on the record :)
Ooo you've done a great job with this. Spooky drawn out lines and eerie BV's. I like how you tweaked it a bit to suit your style of singing/playing on it. And I love the added words in between lines, like echoes. Did you find this very challenging?
I've been singing harmony all my life, for as long as I remember, and improvising harmonies for almost as long. I'd say that balancing the voices and guitar in the DAW to make sure the words shine through was harder for me, but then recording and mixing are a much newer skill for me than singing! Mostly it was just taking the time to sing and listen, sing more and listen, (over and over), snip out any parts that weren't working, and then listen again, just to be sure.
Well you've done a nice job of it!
Wow! I love your adaptation. Sounds so three-dimensional. Your whispered ghosts and ghost-sightings around the edges of the audio are a treat, but I appreciate the atmospheric strumming and the lyrical improvements maybe even more. Regarding that latter, you increased the amount of synchrony, I think, compared to my draft. I mean, better repetition for better emphasis.
I'm so glad you like it. I like it enough that I'm thinking of tweaking the words some more and putting it up on bandcamp, but only if that's ok with you.
I absolutely the ghosts, flitting in and out..the spoken ghosts.. it all blends in and around the body of the song so well. Very atmospheric (as the name would suggest) - sweet 🎵
The spooky vocals and background is so cool! Especially with the vibrato tone and subdued (and quite lovely) guitar. The whispered voices and oohs, I just love it! And the whole airy tone is a great place. It sounds haunted!! I made a version of this myself and have listened to 5 others at this point and I’m still not totally sure what the words are about, but maybe that’s the point…we don’t understand the spirit world and what a ghost’s motivations are. Really enjoyed your version, sounds great!
