Folkie Invasion

Skirmish: Invasion (@robinleaf)

Liner Notes

I am a little late for the skirmish because we are camping and I was not satisfied with any of my phone demos yesterday. We had to go home for an appointment today and I brought back my trustee 20-year-old Zoom H4. I have a semi high-tech Lo-Fi campsite recording studio here now.

This weekend was the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia, Ontario. I have been I think I can attending the Mariposa Folk Festival since 1987 and volunteering since 1992. For the past several years I have been quite content being one of the MCS for the festival open stage which runs all weekend in one of the beer tents. #fuc #folk #acousticonetake #guywithukulele

Lyrics

Folkie Invasion Sean McGaughey copyright July 6th. 2026

They are parking their westies by the lakeside Everyone in birkenstocks and tie-dyed. Staking out their favorite spots [em] beneath the trees To listen to the music and catch a cool breeze

Continue Its a folkie invasion, All the hippys, pickers, dancers and artists Gather in the park, stay out after dark With great music and friends.

Another folkie invasion Generations of families on the lawn Party till the noise bylaw kicks in Start again at dawn With our folkie invasion.

They are lined up for the biffys at the pub tent Flocks of tweens are roaming safe without their parents A music legend is playing a sidestage And people with facepaint could be of any age

In the sixties, the town enacted a bylaw To keep out the hippys, weirdos and freaks [F} These days the whole town joins in the [am] party That lasts till the end of the week.

It’s a folkie invasion.

Cool lyrics. Nice chorus too! I like the uke. Very nice!

Sounds like a great place to be!

you do a spectacular job of bringing this scene to life for those who werent there. so many of the images are the same as those i saw in 1968 at a psychedelic invasion, and the local lawmakers always do their best to control the energy but its a losing battle for them and a win for the people. it was encouraging to hear that the children were allowed to run free.

Well, it sounds like fun to me! I am sold. Thanks for sharing this musical portrait of the event. Your familiarity with and love for it really comes through. The ukulele part also works nicely. Great job!

I love the picture painted here, sounds like a beautiful festival! I love that it’s a whole multi generational affair too. I feel like my band should attend some year!

I get a total visual image of what this invasion is like. Between personal experience and your lyrics, I feel like I’m right there with you at your lo fi campsite recording studio…

@pfoo

I had to look up "westies" and "biffy". I was guessing a biffy was like a pint of beer or something, but no. I like the rhyme pub tent and parents.

Sounds like a fun weekend, and cool that you have a way to record from the campsite!

A great tribute to folk festivals everywhere, and in your case, Mariposa. Sounds like a great time, and the song really conveys the joy of being there!

A nice homage. You know I've never been to Mariposa? This year I was tempted with Billy B. Now that I know you run the open mic I guess I'll have to go. Happy mini FAWM!
