The Thread
Skirmish: blink and you'll miss it (@alyxanderjames)Liner Notes
In addition to my skirmish, this one is part of the #WildCard challenge! The card I got was The Thread, and the line from the guidebook that really stuck out to me was "You may think you have to find the thread and pull it. Imagine, though, that it's already tied around you, waiting for you to follow it home."
Lyrics
Most days I don't believe in fate I like to think the choices that I make Come from me, even if what's me is just An ever-changing cocktail of chemicals
But sometimes I can feel the pull Like a thread that's tied around my chest Pulling me toward something true If I blink I just might miss it
Most days I'm grasping for control Of anything to make the world less terrible But the control I have is minimal The choice of my behavior and reactions
But sometimes I can feel the pull Like a thread that's tied around my chest Pulling me toward something true If I blink I just might miss it

Thanks for the liner note! I found your inspirational quote also inspired me. I like the introspective tone of your lyric and the gentle musical track you have created.
I love so much about this! The tension between ideas of self/fate and the material nature of existence... nice. And the delivery suits it perfectly. Thanks for playing! :)
Nice set of lyrics, lots of good lines here and its so so easily delivered.
I love the melody in the line, "Sometimes I can feel the pull"
I really like this line: ā the choices that I make/Come from me, even if what's me is just/An ever-changing cocktail of chemicalsā Iām a scientist by day and so often we are very reductionistic and mechanistic but at the same time we all have heart and soul and agency and itās all so mystical. The song is beautifully sung and constructed too, thanks for putting it out there
Ah, this is lovely, in theme and execution! I really love the descending melody line at the start of the chorus.
There's a lovely flow to this and some very thoughtful lyrics too. I think we've all struggled with the concept of choices vs fate. Very enjoyable listen.
Love your first line! The meditation on what it is to be a 'self' and feeling pulled towards 'something that's true' is really lovely.
I really love the chords on this one! Also some fun sneaky rhymes š
