Desperate

NSFWLiner Notes
#punk #onetake This little idea popped up and wouldn't leave me alone. I'm sure it's stolen from something but I can't place it. Sounds like a Monkees song. If I do whatever the muse brings she brings more. If I reject any idea for any reason she just doesn't bring anything else until I do it. Worse, if I wait too long she stops coming around at all, so here we are. NSFW cuz I can't stop fuckin cussin.
Lyrics
Too much of everything Was never quite enough for me And that's why I am here you see Again Desperate
So much for legality This constant impropriety Has left me dead to destiny Again Desperate
Your heartfelt complexity's No match for this simplicity Horny, hungry, thirsty Again Desperate
Solo (6 6 4 the neighbor of the beast)
No one so enchained is free Just leave that silver steel to me I'll chew thru with my fuckin teeth Again Desperate
Who needs all this misery When we could be in ecstasy Let's go do it properly Again Desperate

That's IT! God, that was driving me crazy! It's a variation on the nobody's fault rhythm, mixed with last train to Clarksville! I did indeed track it all, each thing just one take. I wouldn't use Landr for a real release, but I find it useful for demos. Makes em car-listenable and so on. Their AI thing or whatever works like normalize and I often use "warm" to take the edge off brittle things but compared to an experienced human it's crap. 🤣 Thanks for listening!
Fun pop song! Really like your sound choices. The driving rhythm guitar, bass, and drums, are perfectly balanced with the lead guitars. Vocals are spot on. Great stuff!!
Very well produced! It has to be well thought out to be this tight in a one take. The lyrics and vocals are strong. Great job!
I thank you! As mentioned elsewhere, for me "one take" means "Once thru the guitar part, once for bass, once for each vocal, once for lead, etc...) Well thought out is not a phrase I would use tho. More like "Ready or not, here we go, 1 2 3 4!"
I wrote an entire album about what you described with the muse. It's so true! The chord progression makes me think Devo. Love the energy and very impressive as a #onetake!
That muse thing took me way too long to figure out. I would be like "Why?! Why this?! Give me something else!" and got silence. Finally in frustration I gave up and started doing whatever came and it just kept coming. Suddenly I was like "Ohhhhh..." I couldn't love Devo more, so that is an excellent compliment. You'd be hard pressed to name a more original and unusual group. Thanks!
This is an impressive one-take; catchy, vocals are spot on, and the lyrics rock. Well done.
Thanks! I will often have an idea that, if I don't record it Immediately, will be lost. So I pick a beat, throw down guitar, then bass, then vox, then solo and we're done! Then I will often forget about it anyway 🤣
Ha, I get what you say about feeding the muse, don't want her to stop now do we? This one is a great pop punk song, 'desperate' for the chorus really works well, I think it sounds like something too but I can't place it either which means it's probably perfect.
I'm sure when I figure it out I'll be mortified, but in the meantime it's fine. Goes nicely with Taylor LOL
Great production, just love that "Again, Desperate" is essentially your chorus. Short, sweet, and perfectly punk. Cooler and edgier than what I know the Monkees to sing.
Well that solo surprised the shit outta me! 😆 That was awesome. Didn’t sound like it was biting anything. It did make me think of Husker Du, which I enjoyed.
LOL! I plugged in the guitar and I'm like "OK, WHATEVER COMES OUT I AM GOING WITH!" and somehow that just...went. Once I started doing it I was like "OK, this is working...NOW WHAT?!! HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS?!" and then it was over and I thought "Welp!" and here we are 😆
No obvious rip offs to my ears, but maybe I'm not the best one to ask. The opening drums sounded a little bit like the "we're not gonna take it" drums but that might be mostly in my head. Oh, cool oodilypoodily guitar bit. Guitars sounding good. Maybe a bit slower than what I was expecting for the punk tag but it works so dang well at this tempo that I wouldn't dare try suggest changing it. I absolutely loved your "I can't stop fuckin cussin" line. (Sounds like a great song idea, tbh.) My grandmother in law used to say, "Quite your goddamn cussin! It sounds like shit!" which I thought was apt.
Honestly genre names have seriously been the bane of my career forever. I've had more fucking record company executives say "Man we LOVE your music, but we just don't know how to market it, What IS this stuff?!" Too blues for jazz, too rock for metal, too metal for punk.. ad nauseum. And I always said "Who cares? Just put it out? We'll find out what it is when they tell us!" but they never would. Only one label ever took a chance, we broke even (a minor miracle) and they dropped us as having "not done what they hoped". Five minutes later the industry was destroyed so at least they starved too.
This is more complex than I expected for a "one-take" song. The music is a lot of fun, and I love the energy. Love the guitar solo, a very metal slant to it.
Thanks! I was wheedlydeedling my ass off and when I heard it back my 1st thought was "Geez, That sounds more like a keyboard!" and my 2nd was "Wow, pretty clean!" When I say "One take" I mean I do whatever instrument once thru. I might cut and paste to cover some fuckup, but don't retake the part. I haven't performed live in quite some time (since covid really) so my performance chops kind of suck now.
This has me bouncing like a fool in my desk chair. I could easily hear this on a compilation of underground/college rock from the late 1980s, and that guitar riff between verses feels like "mid 1970s Jimmy Page". (I mean that as a high compliment.) Did you track everything yourself?
(PS, glad to see I'm not the only FAWMer giving my money to Landr.)
