guatecoop says:
This is the second in-person collab, as zecoop and burr are here in northern Ohio for the weekend. It started intentionally as a drum track, with the structure decided before the actual drum part was decided. We had a lot of luck with this, as it pretty well came together naturally. I played the drums, then @zecoop wrote the guitar, @burr got on the bass to do that part, then each of us got on guitars to add some additional parts and layers. Finally, @burr did the lyrics and sang.
This is a great example of how fun it is to just start something and everyone gets in with what they want to do. It really could have been anything.... Starting with the drums is fun because it is so wide open, really. We had a great time together and hope that you enjoy it, too!
- guatecoop: drums, guitars
- zecoop: guitars
- burr: bass, guitars, lyrics/vocals
Lyrics
caught between over-thinking and under-feeling we reach out to grab on to what we're concealing
when the dreams that we had seem out of touch we sometimes lower the bar i know you're afraid that you're too much and sometimes you are
crying in the middle seat of a jumbo jet wanting to rescue all the people i don't hate yet
i'm still going to miss you i'm still going to miss you didn't mean to dismiss you i'm still going to miss you i'm still going to miss you didn't mean to resist you i'm still going to miss you
like making a meal for the lover you know is leaving guilt and relief can be its own form of grieving
rooted in the ground, yet disconnected like the kiss that pulls away just when you least expect it
i'm still going to miss you i'm still going to miss you didn't mean to dismiss you i'm still going to miss you i'm still going to miss you didn't mean to resist you i'm still going to miss you

Just happy to be listening to this second collaboration rendezvous song. It's epic. I thought the first one was as well. The instrumentation, vocals and lyrics all blend together so well to create this dreamy/hazy vibe of goodness.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan this sounds so good. Nailed the shoegaze sound. I'm gonna stop typing and just listen.
Ooo, this sounds so full and big! Really lovely collab work. I've rarely started from rhythm but I have a friend who starts many of her songs that way, and it's always fascinating to me how things can build from there!
Dreamy vibe, this came together really well. I love all the guitars swirling about - I really like "wanting to rescue all the people i don't hate yet" How cool to have in person FAWM band activities!
Sounds great, very dreamy and swirly, a bit of shoegaze meets grunge , really like the vocal sound
I did not expect to hear shoegaze on any of your profiles, but this sounds like a real band. This deep melancholy just hits my sweet spot, I could listen to it all day. Hope you add it to one of your albums later. Wanna have that song :)
A second song? Yay! Love that wall of guitar sound. I really like how it wraps around the vocals which stay in their lane, unaffected in such a cool way, but the guitars rise and fall so effectively. Maybe like waves of grief? I know it is a good song when it finishes and I think wow that is too short - and see that it is almost 4 minutes long. It is almost mesmerizing in a way - the use of repetition, the cycle of guitars - it kind of picks you up and carries you away on a journey through this loss. Great percussion and bass too. Wonderful production. What a collab!
Wow, so very cool for this to happen, almost like an in-person (more than a) four-track. An airy lyric with solid rock rhythm and guitar layers. Super collab!
Great song, each part is top notch. Especially like the moment when the guitars go a lil nuts
Okay, first off, this sounds great! Seriously. There is a great sense of dynamic contrast in this track. The guitars are wonderful. I like the lyric very much. This is really good.
And, secondly, what is the effect chain on the vocals? Sounds great on this.
vocals: they're just straight-up doubled (you can hear the parts where i didn’t line up just right, or i went up in one and down in the other). they’re panned ~7% left and right, with a 3rd octave up vocal on the choruses. the brothers coop would know about other effects, but i think it’s waves “vocal rider” plus a smidge of reverb.
Hey there TC! Thanks for the comment! I put simple stuff on—light eq, compression, reverb….but, each are doubled and some have a doubled higher octave vocal underneath. There’s also a vocal buss with heavier compression under all of that. It sounds complicated but isn’t really. The mic is a Beezneez Elly FET into a Warm Audio WA412. And, you have to have a @burr at your disposal to write and sing, hahaha!
Yeah, it occurred to me after I asked the question that not having a @burr at my disposal was probably the inhibiting factor. Thanks for explaining the process, though.
All the clever ways to make music there are now, still nothing beats musicians coming together to create in the same space. This has some real magic. Strong sub pop vibes which is always a winner for me! Great Collab!
i know! it was so much fun to do this in person, i haven’t done many IRL collabs in a while. so glad the two coops invited me out!
What a collab! Love these lyrics. So many great turns of phrase here. The whole thing is fire.
What an absolute treat! So excited that you're together making music IRL. It feels so generous and spacious, a wide open sky with a smattering of stars. I had to look up what "shoegaze" was and now realize that it's a style that I really like but just didn't have a name for. Gosh these lyrics are stunning.
