Let's Pretend We Know What's Known
Liner Notes
#indierock I was hoping to use more of Shelley's poem Ozymandias. You know, the one in which a traveler finds "two vast and trunkless legs of stone" in the desert, the remains of a colossal statue: And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
I rain out of steam lyrically, so I just tacked on a little outro to squeeze in a reference to the legs of stone. I really wish I knew how to get decent guitar tone. Alas, nothing will remain but boundless decay anyway...
Lyrics
You can take [the] point And not bring it home Let’s pretend we know what’s known
Every single second counts Every time we run our mouths We strike a match and it goes out Every single second counts
We live here…but we come here
Eighty megahertz through blood and bone The TV’s on but no one’s home Ozymandias puts down the phone It rang and rang but no one’s home
We live here…but we come here
Eighty megatons through flesh and bone The TV’s on but no one’s home Let pretend we know what’s known Go!
Eighty megahertz through flesh and bone The TV’s on but no one’s home Ozymandias puts down the phone It rang and rang but no one’s home
We live here…but we come here Let’s pretend we know what’s known
Every single second counts Every time we run our mouths We open up and air goes out Every single second counts Look upon my works…my legs of stone You can mouth the words And not know what’s known: “We live here”

This is so layered - like veils over truth. The repeated phrases- we live here... but we come here, Every single second counts, feel like markers on the slow road to decay. You use music and vocal phrasing ebbing and flowing to accentuate and punctuate so well. It becomes a hypnotic journey. This is masterful storytelling and musicality combined. Awesome.
Great title, and "Eighty megahertz through blood and bone" is such a good line. I like the way the song slowly builds and the troubadorish feel. Nice guitar/piano combo! Really brings out the emotion. Beautifully sad vibe! Outro fab.
The use of the title phrase is intriguing and deep. (and I'm a major Ozymandias fan, so thanks for that -- what a creative introduction of him (even before the legs of stone). This is meditative and I'm going to be thinking about its meaning for awhile.
Now THAT is some interesting lyrics. Really enjoyed this! ❤️
I love “Ozymamdius” - great inspiration! And I like your guitar tone.
Bonza lyric bro! as good as any! they just flow perfectly -that whole eighty megahertz is inspired! The sparse music is very well done as well! a real more is less!
"the tv's on but no ones home pretty much encapsulates the state of the world today. and it is all to true that all knowledge is at our fingertips, yet we are aware of almost none of it. i like the creeping rhythms and the cautiously hesitant voice. maybe you are not telling us all you know. like the prophet afraid to deliver the prophecy for fear of retribution.
This is a masterpiece! This FAWM is the best thing I've heard from you so far! It has something hypnotic and enigmatic about it! I especially like that little piano pieces, which really emphasizes the slightly eerie atmosphere! As if something might happen at any moment! And your timing is fantastic! Great piece!
I love how the lyrics spiral and how you use silence and delay some of the words.
The little pauses between words give it an unexpected feel, even though I can follow along with the lyrics. It's funny an earlier comment mentioned Jimi Hendrix's version of "Watchtower" because I was thinking the same thing. I've no idea if the chords are similar (that's not what I'm saying) but the feel is...and we all know that is an unimpeachably cool song.
This feels a bit more... portentious? ominous?... than I'm used to from your songs, and I like it! There's a no-nonsense feel that really hits home, giving it an almost theatrical feel that's really impactful (to use a buzzword that's often meaningless or glib but that I think actually captures what I'm trying to say here).
Nice opening line "You can take [the] point And not bring it home" Oh, this could be fine live live jam on the outro - has a Watchtower (Jimi) vibe that feels it could explode at any minute.
I think your guitar tone is cool, just my opinion! I kept mishearing it as "we live here but we can't hear" which I may steal somehow. This track is wonderfully vibey, I love the low end guitar.
