Baby It's You

Liner Notes
I kinda like where this one is going but it ain't there yet! Disclaimers below...
-
My vocals kinda suck in this song (some might say in all my songs but that's another conversation!) but that is because I am sick! I've barely had a voice since last Monday but I couldn't resist trying today.
-
I am NOT drunk. Yes my voice gets louder and quieter in the wrong places in the song like an alcoholic wandering around a microphone, but again, I am sick and I assume the cold has affected my snuffleupagus tubes in my ear (pretty sure that is what they are called.) Or perhaps it is the cough medicine?
-
I did not set out to rip off a Beatles cover of "Baby It's You (Bacharach/Williams/David)". My song needed a hook and I thought "Baby It's You" sounded pretty good so I used it. Where I may have gotten into trouble was in then also using "Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la" in the outro! Ah well, I bought the ticket so I will damn well take the ride!
Please give me honest feedback unless it is negative in which case I will accept lies. Thank you! Merry Christmas and to all a Good Night! Did I mention I am sick?

it's the new evolution change your body and face it's a way to escape step out of your place
change every aspect your heart and your mind cast aside everyone leave 'em behind
be different be new be bold aw baby, it's you! at least, you'll have something to do baby, it's you
complete revolution through time and through space fresh squeezed beginnings unsullied embrace
change all your feelings explore a new world walk a brave pathway your freak flag unfurled
be different be new be bold aw baby, it's you! at least, you'll have something to do baby, it's you
run away from it hide today from it before you fade to gray from it can't stay here that much is clear create a new you puppeteer
be different be new be bold aw baby, it's you! at least, you'll have something to do baby, it's you
as the end of your world sneaks up on you you recall all the times when I warned you now the truth slowly starts to dawn on you you were different all along baby, it's you aw baby, it's you! Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la baby, it's you aw baby, it's you

This comes right out and gets your attention! It has the sound of a song that you might have a few drinks to. Definitely has an ear wormy quality, as it will probably be in my head all day! I like the empowering message in this, as I initially thought it was a love song with the title. Super cool!
Old style rock with new thinking (at least the new face part). What’s not to like ?
I've been complaining about my voice for several years--and did once this year at the beginning (because I genuinely don't like the "old man" wavering that is starting to show up)--but nobody here will ever be straight with you on that. That being said--COME ON, your voice sounds just fine! ;-) Great song! ❤️
I love the guitar intro and I frikkin love the melody of this tune. Love the way the lyrics flow within the music. Those short phrases make a pleasing flow that's so catchy. I found myself singin "Aw Baby it's you", and waiting for it to come around again....then when it stopped I had to hit play again to get my "Aw Baby it's You" fix. Just an awesome hook...Beatles be damned!! The leads interspersed are perfect...not too complex...just the right icing on a really tasty cake!! Now as for the vocals...honestly.... they are excellent!! You may have been struggling, but that's not what I hear... I hear a slightly different and more gritty slant of your vocals, and I think it works extremely well. Every note right on point and even the Sha la la is sweetly performed. I really enjoyed the lyrics and the upbeat message they so excellently convey. Lines like "fresh squeezed beginnings, unsullied embrace"....wonderful wordsmithing!! I love that at the end, she finds out she was different all along, without changing a thing!! Great song John.. I loved it alot!!
You're obviously a master of the this kind of Americana rock song, and this is another great example. The driving music, full of energy and passion; the uplifting, encouraging, empathetic lyrics; just the overall rootsy vibe. This one's got everything.
(And I commend you for continuing your musical output despite your illness--great work ethic! 😀 )
Electric guitar lead grabs you right at the start! Hey, titles can't be copyrighted, so I say it's not an issue - maybe if you changed a couple of notes in the 'sha-la-la part'...
Ah, yes, when I saw the title, I did go there… But this is a fresh new twist on those same 3 words. Very catchy! Especially with those drums taking me back to the 70s.
Curse those snuffleupagus tubes!!!! Mine gave me tinnitus today on only the left ear :-(. Hope you get better soon.
Lyrics make me think - you cant ever run away from yourself - but it doesnt stop most of us trying from time to time
Sickness be damned, this was really enjoyable! I found myself nodding along from the outset, and later humming along to the catchy chord progression and melody. I do love me an anthem of positivity, and what’s not to absolutely dig about a line like “ walk a brave pathway your freak flag unfurled” amen to that!
Thank you, Sarah!!
real good commercial song. and i like your singing on this. i was sick the first week of fawm. my voice was shot. it was so bad i had to find new ways to sing ,and the result was a change of vocal pace and some interesting tracks. on first playback, i decided to redo them but after a few listens, i realized i had to maintain the integrity of the flaws,
Thank you, Bill!
Your disclaimers just made me laugh so hard. Anyways, this song is great, I really enjoyed the flow of your lyrics and the awesome guitar playing. The lyric: "fresh squeezed beginnings unsullied embrace" is awesomeness. Hope you start to feel better soon!
Thank you, Abby! When I couldn't get the vocals to sound decent I figured I could perhaps amuse someone with the liner notes! (They amused me so I already won!)
Lovely lyric so well structured. Some of us have less to lose with sickness not like you - I know it sucks to be sick but its a darn good effort. Its a really good song and those guitars sound fit and well! Love the OOOO baby its you!
Thank you John! Cheers mate!
Hope you feel better soon. Liking the guitars a lot. Vocalizing while sick sucks big giant sized nasty tasty lollipops but this actually sounds pretty darn decent. I like the optimism in the face of challenges that comes from the chorus. I feel happy that you were able to get something in spite of the ickness.
Thanks T.C.
I love this happy-sounding song juxtaposed with these pretty ominous lyrics! The line “at least you’ll have something to do” in the chorus really adds to that contrast for me, between the two “baby it’s yous.” Great stuff!
