Liner Notes

I wrote this song with my 4th grade student Alison. Just a voice memo on me for now, but I hope to make a proper recording with her singing at her next lesson! #banjo #children

Lyrics

I saw a meadow in a dream It was painted a forest green That’s when I knew I’d found my place I could live there all my days

Songs can be sung But you can never know what it was like Unless you get the picture Songs can be sung And the tune will stay young And maybe you can come along Maybe you can come along

By the way In case your interested I found a little mouse by the brook Where I knew that we’d be friends We could go fishing til the sun sets Share a dream I hope will never end

Songs can be sung But you can never know what it was like Unless you get the picture Songs can be sung And the tune will stay young And maybe you can come along Maybe you can come along Maybe you can come along

"Songs can be sung, And the tune will stay young" such a wonderful phrase! Really resonated with me. Lovely lullaby.

Thank you!

Very beautiful, I like the mouse. Lovely melody, lovely playing. I involved a 4th grade class in one of mine today. Thanks for letting your student into this world or songwriting.

Thanks Oren! So glad we have the opportunity to involve kids in songwriting. The mouse idea was hers of course. So precious!

Thank you for being a part of this skirmish! I love that this song was done with a student-- what a great experience for that child, so neat! I love the scene that you paint, a fun place to dream about. Your voice is great, and the melody fits the lyric perfectly. Great work!

Thank you! Great prompt

I really like the simplicity of this lovely co-write! Lovely chorus that invites one to come along!

Thank you!

This is kinda perfect the way it is. What sweet lyrics and a timeless quality to the chorus. Love that you used a banjo for this too instead of a guitar or uke. Just lovely!

Thank you! The banjo chose her the way a wand chooses the wizard. Excited to get her playing and singing this on her banjo

@ruby

I love the chords, actually all of it is just perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! The chords were my fourth graders idea :)

Love the image of the "painted" meadow in the dream -- it gets at the unreliability of dream images. They are based in reality without being reality.

The chorus of this is really strong. "Maybe you can come along" is such a great line. Makes me think of Ella Jenkins singalongs of my youth.

Thank you! I will have to check out Ella Jenkins

Love the banjo! And I love that you're getting your students involved in the songwriting, that's awesome! I teach remotely so that's tough for me to do, I envy you!

[pic]

Thank you! I’ve gotten to be a part of a lot of collabs this month with the kiddos.

i really like that chorus, particularly the last line inviting everyone to join you

Thank you!

A super evocation of rural bliss and a neat relationship between the narrator and the young person addressed.

There is an old-timey Bluegrass ballad feel to this that I particularly like. It must be evoked by the strummed banjo. My dad was a massive Bluegrass fan and I was brought up (in Lagos, Nigeria) on some really obscure singers and bands, albums from which Dad would get from crew members off visiting American ships.

Thank you! That’s cool about your background. Thanks for sharing!

So pretty! Endearing and I could listen over and over!
