#Acapella

Two contrasting lullabies to the same tune. One is what my narrator feels he would like to sing to his infant child, while the other is what he feels obliged to sing as he looks out on this insane world that has been getting even crazier in the last twelve months.

Lyrics

What I would like to be able to sing:

The night has fallen, the day is done We've lost what we've lost But we've won what we won There's always tomorrow When it turns to today So sleep my child wish your worries away

What I feel I have to sing

The war hasn't started, give me a fist pump With luck we'll all wake up From the nightmare of Trump It's distressing my child But the truth I must say Hate and fear are ruling the day

I like both versions. I would go with the first one, because I avoid conflict as much as possible. but I get the feeling, long ago, the truth was not as sugar coated as it is today. The second has a very old time feel to it. well done

You might be right. Telling kids the truth today might be deemed psychological abuse... Sigh....

[pic]

keep the kiddies away from the truth so go with first one if you want them to sleep

Yes, of course. But the narrator feels he is sugaring the bitter pill.

Indeed. no other comment required!

Thank you for being a part of this skirmish! Love the first part, as a soothing lullaby, great voice and fitting melody.

I really love the boldness of the contrast and the message it sends - what it could be and what we have. Love to hear you vocals acapella front and center and seems to make the lyrics even more powerful.

Love the contrast between the two paths. Your beat/feel fits a lullaby so well.

Nice idea -- can't wait for that second lyrical idea to be a thing of the past!

Me too

@ruby

Classic British folk vocal which I love. A Capella gives the lyrics and melody the spotlight which is perfect

Love the a cappella! I wish I was brave enough to showcase my voice alone like that! I really like the contrast of the two lullabies a lot, even with the disturbing reality of the second one. Nice skirmish!

A long time ago, so long it feels like another lifetime, I was a semi-pro folk singer on the then thriving folk circuit in Britain. That is where I got the confidence to sing acapella. But then Thatcher came to power and I banished myself to a wonderful life in Catalonia. That was 40 years ago this September and I am still counting my blessings. But I do miss communal singing in my native language (English).

Truth. I really like the juxtaposition. Good rhythm and rhyme. Nice write.

Thanks. I appreciate your comment

Love the contrast between the two narrators. Much prefer the first one. The second one has more of a nightmare feel to it. Good work.
