I CAN SING

Challenge: SAWTOOTH MELODYLiner Notes
@wynia says: I got these encouraging and uplifting lyrics from @metalfoot and I knew it had to be a kind of jazzy and definitely jaunty tune. @metalfoot provided the extra challenge of including the lyrics "I can sing" (I am at times insecure about my voice) and "I can write catchy songs" (I'm fairly new at this, so...). Did we succeed?
Recorded by our band @bearwith , the pack of @miniwynia and sibling singers, and the Wynia-Smith household symphony orchestra
Credits: @metalfoot Lyrics
@wynia songwriting, lyrical adaptation, lead vocals, #trumpet , keys
@briansmith bass, #cello , audio engineering/mixing/production
@dmelbygibbons vocals, and he cloned himself for a doubled electric guitar solo at the end
@miniwynia and siblings J.D.S. and M.H.S. exuberant "ba-ba-ba-ba..." singing
Also J.D.S. with some #viola on the outro
Lyrics
Verse 1
Woke up again this morning That means that it's a great day I have people who love me That means it's going to be OK
Pre-Chorus 1 Sure the world isn't as great as it might be Then again, much of the time, neither am I Sure there are struggles and sorrows around me But there's more to do than sit and cry __ _
Chorus I can sing, I’ll spread joy around (ba-ba-ba-ba…) I can play, and write catchy songs (instrument echo) I can lose myself in the sound (ba-ba-ba-ba...) I can feel this here and now _ __ _ __ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Verse 2 I have a roof to sleep under That means that it's a great day I have freedom to wonder That means it's going to be OK_ _
Pre-chorus 2 Sure the world these days is awfully messy Then again, much of the time, so am I Sure many things fall apart all around me But there's more to do than sit and sigh _ _
Chorus I can sing, I’ll spread joy around (ba-ba-ba-ba…) I can play, and write catchy songs (instrument echo) I can lose myself in the sound (ba-ba-ba-ba...) I can feel this here and now _ __ _ __ _ _

This song is infectious. Exhilirating, and so much fun to listen to
Wow this is TV theme song ready. Really cool production on this. Love the instrumentation. Lyrics are good - the world is messy and so am I. Nice.
I can never not instantly love that piano and drum beat, so, like, you had me at the intro.
But the trumpet/melody lock in (and call and response) and pure joyous jam!! Wowza! Love how big this gets from where it starts!
Thank you for this song!
Lovely uplifting lyrics and the melody and instrumentation is perfect for it. The trumpet parts are awesome!
The gratitude and joy that radiate from this lyric and performance. The trumpet fill that leads the verse into the chorus and mirrors the ba-ba-bas is a hook! Love the structure, how the chorus back to the second verse hits like a key change.
wow, this is two tons of fun… yeah feels like 70s schoolhouse rock vibes or something… not exactly, but the boppiness and instrumentation and all the vocal layers. well done. particularly fond of the trumpet octave up in the choruses!
The trumpet added to your already excellent vocals and production is just a treat!
So Frickin bouncy and upbeat! The perfect antidote to my own output - great collaboration everyone!! The instrumentation is wonderful and so full of surprises - keeps getting more and more layered… did not expect the guitar outro. TOP TOP song!!
the straight Major piano gives a late 60s early 70s colorized by shades of psychedelia. And the trumpet in there makes it sound like something that Burt Bacharach may have been involved in.
I like the trumpet! I also like the layers of guitar solo - normally that doesnt work well but it sounds really clean the way you have done it.
The music does a good job of capturing the paradox of the lyrics - the rythm is jaunty and jolly, but the melody you are singing has a sad feel to it, which matches the not-very-convincing message that the singer is happy when so much seems to be going wrong. Well done to you both.
Now that's a treat! Piano and drums already make the song uplifting and give the joyfull lyrics its rightfull base. But then oh the trumpet echoes that make it fly to the sky! And the guitare layers that make it land on some cloud silver lining! Delightfull.
Beautiful musification of this metalfoot lyric. Such a joyful noise this song makes. Wondrous and wonderful!
Great collab! The trumpet adds a bright touch that gives this the flavor of the Beatles 'Penny Lane', the outro with the lead guitar then takes on almost a Strawberry Fields feel. A very happy tune!
I love the vocal harmonies and the production on this! This is really, really good!
Such a production! Love how trumpet forward this is. This is just joy. Great job.
Ah yeah, this is great. Joyous and fun and brilliant arrangement and performance. This might be stuck in my head for a while. Ba-ba-ba-ba
This is great! I love these huge collabs like this. Everyone did great with their parts. Ya'll are the best. You definitely succeeded here.
This is an amazing tune with different levels of instruments and vocals. The instrumental solo was grand! Nicely done!
I love it. We need more of this positive energy right now. Wow that solowas rad. (Solos. The two guitars doing simultaneous different solos.)
Love everything about this. Thank you for this upbeat number.
Yes BRASS..now I'm happy. A wonderful Bealtes-ish vibe and very uplifting chorus . Great collab you all.
I'm always up for another song with the Wynia-Smith household symphony orchestra and friends. The best conglomeration of musicians since the Belle and Sebastian school orchestera. You took the positivity of metalfoot's lyric and ran with it. This is the happiest song Ive heard since the Coca cola commercial that thaught the world to sing in perfect harmony.. And man, do i love that trumpet!
Whoa. Family band FTW. This reminds me both of the Beatles and Joe Raposo's Sesame Street songs.
This was the spring I needed in my step today! What a fun song! And impressive that you got so many folks together so quickly to execute it! I love the brass, for that retro 60s vibe! The melody fits the words so well, you wouldn't know they weren't written by the same person. And yes, @wynia , you CAN sing!
this is really fun. Great response to the Sawtooth Melody challenge. Love how the horn and vocals go together. The lyrics are indeed upbeat and you've matched them perfectly. Harmonies and instrumentals are spot on. Nicely done.
Yes!!! This is amazing. Super Catchy. You CAN! The orchestration, choir and arrangement are amazing. Lovely household band over there! Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba! So good. Congrats all around. 👏👏👏🎶
