The "I don't like cigarettes" and "I was in the thrall of love untrammeled...'til you got out that pack of Camels" had been rolling around in my skull for several years along with a rough idea of chords...I decided to sit down and bang it out today. I don't usually write love songs...LOL...but this was pretty fun.

Lyrics

I saw you across the way The neon light bouncing off your glass and off your eyes Another Tanqueray and tonic, you cast a look I sat down at the bar Indulge a bit in trivial conversation

The meeting of our eyes right there A spark of romance in the air I was in the thrall of love untrammeled ‘Til you got out that pack of Camels

I’d love to go out with you But I don’t like cigarettes We could hang out it’s true But I don’t like cigarettes There really might be magic A feeling I can’t forget Despite mutual attraction I don’t like cigarettes

You told me not to worry You only fired up a cig whenever you went out for a drink I really shouldn’t let this get in the way Of something that might be grand - it’s not everyday Two souls connect in such a fashion

You asked me if I had ever smoked And asked me if I’d like to try a stoke I know I might sound like a dummy Why can’t you just switch to gummies?

I’d love to go out with you But I don’t like cigarettes We could hang out it’s true But I don’t like cigarettes There really might be magic A feeling I can’t forget Despite mutual attraction I don’t like cigarettes

It’s funny how falling in love can change the way we act I guess it’s really true sometimes that opposites attract

Solo

I’d love to go out with you But I don’t like cigarettes We could hang out it’s true But I don’t like cigarettes There really might be magic A feeling I can’t forget Despite mutual attraction I don’t like cigarettes

Tonight has been a night of rapture I didn’t expect my soul would be captured Could there be a happily ever after Though I don’t like cigarettes?

A: I love bass forward songs B: I remember rocking, and man you are rocking! Everything you write reminds me of something I've heard on the radio....Nirvana, Cracker, The Police....wow.

Been too long since I've heard your music. It's as awesome as I remember...Funny lyrical story. That line that's been haunting you was worth putting out in the world. Great stuff!

Absolutely scrumptious and exemplary power pop here. I love the organ like everybody else, but the great sounds you got out of those relatively cheap guitars is fabulous. (It's not the arrow, it's the archer, right). And the vocal was awesome. One of the very best things I've heard this FAWM, so now I'm compelled to check out all your other stuff. BTW, there was a Chicago band I was fond of called The Bon Mots this makes me remember.

Great playing and sound. Very well done and a super fun listen!

Oh how clever! Love the full sound, you sound amazing! This is a hilarious storyline, so very relatable for all us non-smokers!

Haha! Sure, a love song, but with hilarious tongue-in-cheek honesty. And no surprise, it absolutely rocks. 😊🔥

i like your big sound with the B-# sailing above it all. i can relate to the song because i went out for awhile with a girl who smoked and after a while had to break it off because i couldnt stand the way she smelled. by the way, your vocals are always exciting.

Great sound... I dig the bass riffing and the hammond, nice. I dig the chorus. Very good production. I really enjoyed listening to this song.

This sounds fantastic. Your organ playing is very inspiring. The lyrics and melody fit so well together too

Very fun song indeed! The music is top notch as always, with that tasty B3 sprinkled all over, and I just love the lyrics. As a lifelong non smoker I fully relate to the sentiment expressed.

always good to see people try a bit different stuff in Fawm. This reminded me of something but im too old to remember these days. I just know it tweaked my memory and felt really comfortable. The last 4 lines tie it up great!

Stellar production, and I love the hook. The whole story is great. Cigarettes really are tough to compromise on, so the angst in the vocal is totally relatable. I love everything about this, good job!

But cigarettes make you cool!

if bits of this have been "rolling around in my skull for several years” i think this qualifies for the #finished_it challenge!

i can relate to this one! i had some crushes in college that i never took to the next level precisely because they smoked, although i didn’t have the guts/heart to tell them that’s why. 😬 musically this is great power-pop vibes and as usual the bass and organ are stars of the show. the modulation (rotary?) also interplays with the guitar lines well.

wow i love this. the concept is incredible and the execution is even better. the lyrics are really clever too! nice job.
