Skirmish: Bridge(s) or Bridging (@kahlo2013)Liner Notes
This was inspired by the terrible floods currently affect Andalusia. In the town my wife's parents are from the river that runs past the cliffs is usually a mere trickle. This week, a couple of elderly people were crossing the bridge on foot. They were nervous about the roaring water below them. They had just crossed when there was an almighty CRACK. They looked back only to see the bridge swept away. I am sure a few Hail Maries were said by the pair after that narrow escape. #fuc Instrument: Baton Rouge 8 String Baritone Ukulele
Lyrics
INTRO: (G) (D) (G)
(G) Nature planted barriers a(C)cross the land(G)scape Fast running rivers that we couldn't (D) cross But (G) upstart man defied (C) nature's (G) plan And built bridges so (D) we could get a(G)cross
But the (F#m) best laid plans can (Em) go (D) awry If (F#m) nature takes it in her head some(A)day When the (F#m) valleys fill with floods under a (A) blackened (D) sky (C) Stone and metal (D) can be washed a(G)way
The architect of a famous sus(C)pension (G) bridge Didn't get his sums quite co(D)rrect The (G) Tacoma Narrows (C) danced in the (G) wind And through (C) torsional (D) flutter it was (G) wrecked
CHORUS
(G) You'd think that in London the (C) team would get it (G) right When designing the Millennium Foot(D)bridge But (G) hundreds of people got the (C) shock of their (G) lives When it rock and rolled with its (D) knickers in a (G) twist
CHORUS

Phew lucky escape! - ive been on a few very dodgy bridges particularly in asia. Cool story - i am more educated!
Cool descriptive tale. Laughed at "knickers in a twist" We're getting a bit of nature for sure. Rebellion?, payback's a bitch! Can't blame nature for the folly of fools though. Cheers
Wow, this is a complete story as well as a lesson and a musical treat! You have great energy in your vocals and playing! A sweet melody too! Nice work on the skirmish!
i love the way you find these stories in real life and put them on the historical continuum by making such excellent songs out of them. and then sometimes you find something ancient and bring it to the attention of us moderns. songs are such a wonderful way to preserve events and to speak across the years.
Thanks for your comments on Bridges. I like writing historical songs. I have a four song "suite" about The Highland Clearances.
Oh yes, the valleys and rivers and gorges will be there long after the bridges have fallen. Good one!
This is a wonderful song! Love the metaphorical message in the chorus and the great stories about bridges in each verse. I am always awed by the font of knowledge you posses on seemingly random topics. And this music delivery is lively and lovely! Great sound, awesome song!
That Baton Rouge 8 string sounds great! I have the 4 string version which I'm very pleased with , but 8 strings would be nice..... Anyway enough UAS - I love your song, vocal delivery, sentiment, and strumming, Great folky song!
Great folk song--I enjoyed this one, too! ❤️
