Liner Notes
A "down the hallway" #collab with my wife @kellyk. She wrote the lyric and I took some time this morning to record. The cajon is new as of Christmas and this is its first recording. Still learning how to play and to mic it. But I'll figure it out. #acousticrock

Lyrics
Amalea passed the day Walking through the dark woods Coming round the winding way
Her hat and coat were gray Between the yellow leaves
Picking up the pace, she came Passing by the rock pool Finding everything the same
She had to play the game Her face a mystery
Soon she heard the man who calls Keeping the appointment Meeting at Cocoba Falls
That’s where the girl recalls The time her breath was stilled
Amalea came to say That she’d thought it over But she couldn’t hope to stay
Too high a price to pay She came to tell him no
Memory can be forlorn Reading like an old book Out of which a heart is torn
The truth is gray and worn Between the yellow leaves
Amalea passed the day

Beautiful song and collaboration. Fantastic lyrics, music, singing and playing. So wonderful to hear your collaboration.
There's so much I like about this song. For starters, the name Amalea. The lyrics are tremendous, and the interesting chords played behind "Her hat and coat were gray" caught me by surprise in a very good way, and I knew I was going to like the song as soon as I heard your voice.
I really love this! Your guys' collabs are super special! This one's got a wonderful Bardic vibe! Fantastic song!!!!
This is gorgeous! Almost reminds me of a song from Spring Awakening. Very unusual and unique harmony/melody. Very mysterious lyrics. Nice work! Love that you collaborated with your music wife.
Interesting and intriguing lyrics. I love the vibe of the melody and vocals. I totally enjoyed this song. Wonderful collab!
I got my husband a cajon a few years ago. I love the sound, and I love that you’re experimenting with it. This has that suggestive, story-seed quality of a Child Ballad. I’m glad nothing terrible happened to Amalea in YOUR song, though! I love the colors in your wife’s lyric. It’s an autumnal song, and your autumnal tenor suits it’s so golden-redly.
Thank you for the lovely comment!
I’m really digging the chord changes on the verse, not to mention the vocal melody…there’s some great 90s feel in all the best ways. This lyric really got to me: Memory can be forlorn Reading like an old book Out of which a heart is torn
My heart kind of flipped over with nostalgia there, especially given aforementioned 90s vibe
Oh man this is absolutely gorgeous. I love how the lyrics in this tell a story but without overly telling the story. You get a feel for what's going on but are also still left wondering. That's awesome. The vocals are fire in this and the music is perfect for the story being told it feels like to me. The end both lyrically and sonically are probably my favourite part of the song. Really strong. Great collab!
Terrific job on the lyrics--love the vocal, too! Great collaboration! ❤️
good melancholic music for some great imagery - love the image of the yellow leaves. I picture Amalea wearing yellow also...seems like an autumn song. I like the "oooooh"'s at the end!
I love what the open chords bring to this and your voice has a lovely moody quality to it which work so well with these words, nice collab !
I am appreciating the imagery in the lyric. The picture is clear and vivid from all the details. And the melody and vocal delivery give it the proper weight and immediacy that it deserves. The cajon addition, and the bass, both fill out the track nicely. Loving the colors in the last couplet, such a great way of relating back to the first couplet and the feeling of the lyric and the song. Well written, both lyrically and melodically.
ugh this is exquisite. so beautiful. i love the partnership between you two, the lyrics and melody go so well together. excellent!
Your output is excellent; you and your wife did a great job on this lovely, soothing but bittersweet piece of folk
What a great set of lyrics. Full of detail, but mysterious enough to let the listener come to their own conclusions. Love your chord progression; the whole thing is a bit hypnotic. I was transported to the dark woods in autumn.
First of all, happy first outing to the cajon! Lovely addition to the overall vibe of this one.
Great arrangement of great lyrics. Highlight for me:
Memory can be forlorn Reading like an old book Out of which a heart is torn
Beautiful work - long live the down the hall collab!
Thanks old friend for the good words on Luzerne Street Good lyric in this song, Cocoba Falls
Like this line: Memory can be forlorn Reading like an old book Out of which a heart is torn
I love that "down the hall collab" I must remember that when Mrs CP joins me. It is a really nice lyric, i keep saying i am a sucker for songs that include names especially female names, something to do with personalising i think. Easy Alex delivery with that strong guitar tops it off.
Some juicy descriptive details and place references that provide the story setting. A wondrous rendition. Well done on the down-the-hallway collab!
Oh, this is gorgeous. Such a story and such a powerful performance to go with it. I dunno what that chord progression is, but it just clicks with me. It feels completely right for this song 😀
Wonderful lyrics – they allow for many interpretations, and the grey coat and yellow leaves immediately conjure images of an autumn forest. The guitar and vocal melody are perfectly atmospheric – very well done.
I like the music and how it flows. Good lyrics + vocals. It reminds me of 90's alternative in the style the guitar is strummed.
Haunting. And very cinematic. I mistook the first line for "Amalea passed away". So the mood is lighter than I first though. But it's still filled with nostalgia. Beautifull story, beautyfull delivery. Re listened to see if I could add some harmonica. And I think I could fit. Would you like me to give it a try ?
