Why'd It Have To Be Snakes?
Liner Notes
No prizes for spotting that today's #MovieQuote song takes Harrison Ford's line from Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) as its inspiration. I love that movie and I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. And I wasn't going to pass up an excuse to use the word "herpetologist" in a set of lyrics...
Lots of Spitfire Audio #orchestral libraries here as well as multiple tracks of the Korg M3 doing its thing. And a bunch of Parker Fly, of course. Grandiose #prog is always the way to go...
Lyrics
I've faced down a priest waving a sacrificial knife Jumping out of Zeppelins is not a source of strife I'll shake off creepy-crawlies when the bugs are rife And happily punch Nazis for the rest of my life, but...
No matter how much guts I've got A herpetologist I am not
Snakes. SNAKES. I really hate snakes. A single hiss is all it takes I never seem to catch a break I don't care if they're real or fake Snakes! Why'd it have to be snakes?
I'm fine with whirling dervishes wielding big-ass swords And teaching undergraduates in their ceaseless hordes Brandishing a bull-whip won me some awards I buy all the fedoras that I can afford, but...

Classic line. This has all the elements I like is this type of song. Bass, synth, strings etc. But you are "a damn good guitar player" aka - ADGGP. Fun song!
haha! As soon as I saw the title without reading the liner notes, I thought of that movie! Watched it in a drive-in movie theater. Fantastic tune. Love the matching emotion between the vocals and music. First time I've heard herpetologist in a song! Great work on the movie challenge!!
When I went to Kauai, I got to go up in a helicopter, and we flew over the spot where they filmed part of the opening sequence to this film! Great tune!
You are so great man. Just fabulous. Such style and verve!
And that film set up the classic re match when he went for his gun and it wasn't there. My wife born n bred Aussie hates snakes as much as Indy - she looks away when this film resurfaces as it inevitably does. ha nailed that intro just enough - very clever musical choices and making it all come together. OOO actually the snakes bit is very catchy! well played!
I recognized the quote-title right away, of course. Very theatrical production! Love how you included so many IJ references!
I love that you made the music so cinematic. Excellent song
This was a delight! Nicely done! I also appreciated how most of the references seemed to be just the earlier films.
Oh yes, this sounds like it belongs on an Indiana Jones soundtrack! I love the plot twist, you've got me cracking up.
Awesome production! So epicly eerie! I felt like I was inside this story, shaking off the "creepy-crawlies!" I too, hate snakes!
The horror show backdrop leading up into the chorus sets the freak out mood well. I think the snakes might be winning though with that major shift in the chorus π Fantastic lyrics and a really fun listen π
This was fun - such big sounds - and due to the common cultural touchstone, you can get a pretty good video for the song in your head. And who doesn't love harmony guitars? And this gem.. "And teaching undergraduates in their ceaseless hordes"
The tech is beyond my means, but it sounds cool. Funny lyrics!! Love the entire Indiana Jones trilogy. Yes, I meant trilogy.
Here in America getting my kids ready for the day and this was the best soundtrack! We were laughing so hard. Itβs the perfect blend of serious and silly. Great chord progressions and movements. Great structure. Iβd pay to see this movie again!
Opens like big thriller! love the marching drums in the back... and the fifes/flutes such dichotomy... love the whole thing! I hate snakes too! Write-On!!
They should definitely hire you to create new music for the inevitable remake!
