Partis pyjamas - gone pajamas

by @ambroise

Liner Notes

Too tired to keep writing songs. I got to bed. Then these lyrics came. Does anyone feel relaxed after writing songs ? Am I the only one to be hyperexcited after ? I’m glad I got to take #ABCDEFG challenge to sound like regular folk music (I-IV-V chord progression and stuff) with just the occasional key change for the chorus. #fuc #harmonica #chanson #frenchwithtranslation

Lyrics

(English translation below)

I have a waltz in my head Like a tango of balance And despite my stubbornness I hear something like an alarm vibrating

The night is ripe, I am ready I must sleep soundly And yet a fever sets in Tormenting my serenity

Gone, pajamas Where do these hours flee, dancing? Gone, pajamas Where can I find the sleep that is slipping away?

Despite my muscles crying out For rest, for rejuvenation, A spark ignites Setting my judgment ablaze

The muses have odd working hours! I can relate, like a lot of us here, I guess. I'm really impressed how you made the ABCDEFG thing sound so natural and even catchy. And I like being surrounded by ukes. (I know it's just two, but that's what the mix feels like.)

[pic]

Danke dir ! I'm glad you liked the mix. I too was quite pleased by how the chord progression (A-D-E / C-F-G with the occasional B7) went down.

[pic]

What I love about your songs is not just the catchy tunes and clever lyrics -- and this has both of those -- but that they also help me relearn the French I've largely forgotten from my youth :)

Also struggling with sleep lately but I assume that's just my creativity in overdrive during FAWM.

[pic]

Thanks for the listen. I hope your sleep will return to human normal standards after fawm !

I can’t believe je viens de voir ton petit joli jeu des mots!!

[pic]

@owling

Thank you for the translation. I very much like your lyrics. This is my favorite stanza:

Gone, pajamas Where do these hours flee, dancing? Gone, pajamas Where can I find the sleep that is slipping away?

Anyone on fire with an idea in the night could relate. And despite that fire burning hot, the gentle tone of voice and ukulele still works perfectly.

[pic]

Thanks! I'm glad this is relatable. I feel less alone with that.

@ruby

This is a great wander through #ABCDEFG searching for pyjamas. Love the harmonica and the bluesy/jazzy turnaround. The translation was great but just listening to your voice was great.

[pic]

Thanks a lot !

[pic]

This is super cute! Love the harmonica, and very much relate to being too excited by cool stuff to sleep.

French is my second language, so I might be missing an idiom - I was super intrigued by il faut dormir à poings fermés translated into English as “I must sleep soundly”. My brain originally translated that as “you have to sleep with closed fists” and I really liked that. If it’s an expression I don’t know, I’ll make a note - either way, what a cool mental image!

[pic]

Thanks ! "À poings fermé" is so idiomatic I used it without thinking — I mean not further than it make an internal rhyme with "point".

[pic]

I like the (panning?) bounciness of the Ike’s from ear to ear. The matter of fact lyrics and the feel of being tired but inspired sound of the whole piece is fun and laid back

[pic]

Yup, two tracks of uke struming, each paned in an opposite direction. If I could strum exactly the same thing I could have a more subtle effect, but I don't see me getting there soon.

[pic]

I get highyperexcited writing la musique aussi, bien sûr!

[pic]

Je suis content que you relate !

[pic]

Lovely! So glad to hear you! This the jolie jolly sound that I love! Tres, tres bon!

[pic]

Thanks a lot !

[pic]

De rien, monsieur!

[pic]

Oh no, it wires me up too. Especially if I write something I really like. See also: lying awake at night with other peoples' song earworms running through my brain! So I do appreciate all of the lyrical sentiment here! Very sweet accompaniment and I enjoyed listening to the lyrics delivered so beautifully (thanks for the translation!)

[pic]

Thanks, glad you could relate ! I hope no earworm will damage your sleep. I found some kinf od lightning rod against earworms. Nursery rhymes are the earworms of earworms. But it is shorter so you get a feeling of completness earlyer. And I found an album of those I like but discovered in my adulhood. So these won't stick to much in my mind but it will erase an present earworm. AND it is based on the alphabet. So if one stays in my mind I just have to sing the next letter in the alphabtic order. Maybe you'll have to find yours, but the strategiy works for me :

[pic]

Came for the uke - pleasantly surprised by the harmonica and key changes - congrats on the A-G challenge. Sweet sounding song.

[pic]

Glad you liked it !

[pic]

Usually the songs that invade my head at night just before I fall asleep are gone by morning and I'm too tired to get up and record... So, I'm glad you caught this one! I hardly noticed the abcdefg, this was well done. This song is so much the blues, I could imagine a hound dog howling along! Wearing pyjamas, naturally. My Anglophone brain hears "party pajamas" which fits with the idea of them running off to dance. Hope you have some daytime inspiration also, or you will be exhausted!

[pic]

Thanks! We also say pyjama party in french. I'm glad the wordplay works for english speakers too.

[pic]

Yesss, multilingual puns for the win!!

[pic]

Despite you being hyperexcited, this song is lovely and peaceful - I would listen to it to relax and enjoy a tranquil time! Sounds good with all the major chords too!

[pic]

Thanks! You're right, there is a dichotomy between meaning and music. And I did not plan this.

[pic]

Very cool take on the ABCDEFG challenge, and I love the harmonica/uke combo, demonstrating how one can make compelling music out of very accessible instruments!

[pic]

I love when unusual chords come down nicely !

[pic]

I love this, it has the quiet tranquil sound of a sweet Muse trying to catch the wind of delight while keeping the sound down enough so as to not wake the rest of the household. And the lyrics speak so wwll of answering the call of the Muse. So good to hear your music again, Ambroise!

[pic]

Thanks a lot ! "Wind of delight" is a nice orientation guide.

[pic]

Songs sometimes relax me and sometimes torment me - it just depends. night time use to be the worst - but i think i have got the bulk of what i want to say out already! i digress - this is a nice song - lovely gentle delivery and your 1 uke, i think i saw you say in a forum somewhere, comes out to play

[pic]

Thanks ! Yep, my only "stricktly-speaking" uke ! Maybe I'll get the chance to use the "broader-sens ukes latter...
