Lyrics
[INTRO] Somewhere in the middle of love (x3)
[VERSE 1] If I had a nickel for every time Suppose I’d only have a dime But two times is a pattern to me And there’s just one answer that I can see
So take this dime and call the one who cares Don’t look for me, ‘cause there’s no one there Your two-time living won’t break my heart ‘Cause I’m all set to make a brand new start
[CHORUS] You’ll find me somewhere in the middle of love Somewhere, somewhere Yeah, somewhere in the middle of love That’s where I’ll be When you’re lonely again
[VERSE 2] You always used to talk about running away Swore you’d do it someday I thought you meant you’d be running with me But your mind’s eye saw it differently
So go run your road, and try to chase the sun You’ll still be lost when your running’s done But don’t trace your steps back or turn around You already know where I’ll be found
[CHORUS] Ooh, somewhere in the middle of love…

Exquisite! The lyrics match the music perfectly and there is so much emotion in your voice.
Cool how the "if I had a nickel" metaphor turns into a dime to make a phonecall, as well as the different twists on two times/two-time. The soaring vocal over the chords in the chorus really ties it all together.
I really enjoyed listening to this one. Lyrics are excellent and the heartfelt emotion in your voice makes this one pretty great.
Well, I think you nailed it, because already in the first line I was relaxing into this song, and was sure it was on this mixed tape made by a friend of a friend of a friend in the 90s with all these stunning songs I’d never heard anywhere else. I want to rewind the tape to hear this one again.
This is beautiful. "If i had a nickel for every time/suppose I'd have a dime" hooked me right away. And the second verse is just as good as the first. This is great writing, and the vocal performance was rich with feeling. Great song!
Very impressed -- I didn't think there was any more juice left in the two nickels thing, but I forgot about payphones. Everything always seems so obvious once you see someone talented do it... Clever and moving!
Somewhere in the middle of love is really a great line. Carries all sorts of implications with it. I love how you turn the expectation around with nickel line and then carry that theme through the first part morphing it as you go. Wonderful melody too. Very floaty and somehow uncertain and yet, it has this haunting familiarity to it. Great job!
The nickel/dime thing is so clever. It’s funny but also exceedingly poignant. I think you accomplished, nay, excelled in meeting your stated goal. You made a banger!!!
Great tune, friend! Catchy! I also appreciate that you remember, or at least know, that phone calls used to cost a dime. XD \m/
Such a catchy intro, I was sucked in from the start, and this is a song that just keeps giving, lyrically and melodically! Wow!
This song is so perfect. I love the tone of your voice. Such a great hooky chorus. I love the nickel and dime line
Love the melody and the singing. Got an immersive singalong vibe. Works with this stripped-down arrangement though I can hear a big late-70s/early 80s big-drum-electric production breaking through e.g. a la Patti Smith
You capture that liminal space so well, tinged with love not quite finished with. Beautiful.
Oh, I think you nailed the vibe you were going for! This is really sweet and just lovely to listen to.
This is beautiful, love the hook and the twist on the harmony into the first verse. Really liked the imagery; painted a picture that subtly came into view as the song developed - the word play around dimes and two times was particularly inspired.
You very much succeeded! Better than lots of what was on the radio then.
