Liner Notes

Been messing around with the settings on my reverb pedal. I think I'm getting the pedal bug. I want a new one but I traditionally keep things as minimal as possible.

I kind of like the direction of this one, and I want to do more like this, but I've got so many gigs at the moment that I don't have as much time as I used to to write. Hence why this is a day late and most of it is first takes and half-arsed, hastily written lyrics. My hope is that I will repair it later in the year (unlikely) or use it as a stepping stone to greater things this month (more likely).

Lyrics

Some things are beyond your control With the punches we roll hidden deep in your soul Can you remember what you wanted 10 years ago?

Maybe there's a reason It's called white noise cause nothing seems to change And you don't get a refund When you wait all night and turns out the same

Sunlight sweet City heat The sound of the drums Moving your feet Feel your vein pulse To the sound of the street A thin strip of cotton Between our heartbeat

As everyone else has said, the reverby loop is just awesome. The lyrics don't feel like they were hastily written at all, which is surely a positive. Love that palm muted repeated high note for the "sunlight sweet" section. Personally, as someone with loads of pedals gathering dust, you should definitely buy more!

That initial reverby loop works really well as a bed for the first and last part of the song, and the bit in the middle where it just stops abruptly and the mix gets a sudden clarity is great. Lovely sounding basslines in this too. The lyrics sound pretty good to me, at least three quarters-arsed imo.

"can you remember what you wanted 10 years ago" is such a stellar punch to the preceding lines.

Love the energy here and the vocals sound great. The bass is super fun too.

The loopy reverby guitar definitely has a different vibe from your classic Balance Lost sound, I like how it swoops around the propulsive bassline in a vaguely post-punk way but you've actually included some melody unlike most of the million post-punk bands who seem to be spawning constantly for the last five years or something. You sure showed them.

LOVE. It's so gentle and spacey, then those hits at 2:45 and the end are like a ton of bricks!! Bass on this is utterly perfect. Great tune

This has one of those intros that I really dig, where there’s a neat little looping part that your brain perceives one way, but then the drums come in and there’s a moment of reconfiguration as my brain has to adjust to the actual rhythm. It’s a sensation I enjoy a lot but hadn’t fully comprehended until i had to describe it here.

I really enjoyed the bridge instrumental around the 3 minute mark, and that arp at the beginning. Production value of this song is insane. Vocals are well done, the instrumental is well done. A solid, solid song!
