Tiny Umbrellas

Liner Notes
Over the last few years my husband and I have really going deep into tiki music (and cocktails) so I wanted to try and write a tune that would fit in our various playlists.
It was so fun recreating the sounds. I played lap steel, guitar, ukulele, and ubass, then added a vibraphone with my midi controller. This one goes out to The Surfmen, my gateway tiki band.
Lyrics
You’ll find me in a land of Tiny umbrellas Floating in a sea of rum Count to three, then say, “Tiny umbrellas “Ready or not, here I come”
Sleeping Lotus, Blue Hawaii Daquiri, Mr. Bali Hai Anything in a coconut will do Palm trees in the breeze We’re having so much fun If only I had something That could keep me out of the sun
Just a few more Tiny umbrellas Tiny umbrellas for everyone!

Oh what a coincidence, I have just cracked into the bottle of pineapple rumi brought back from vacation and it's almost as sweet as this tune. The lap steel is perfect for this.
i know very little about tiki music, but this is like summer in a track! looovely harmonies, really well put together :)
Mission accomplished 🚀 Good lord your thick harmonies immediately conjure the grass skirted gals and the Hawaiian shirts and a sea breeze. I love the chordal shirt at “palm trees”. What a great vibe when I’m sitting here and it’s below freezing out
This is my theme tune for this month. I'm going to keep thinking warm thoughts during this cold February. I love everything about this. The harmonies are very reminiscent of the classic tiki songs. Great to hear your songs again.
Wow, what an uncanny recreation of that tiki music sound! It's all here: the instruments (great lap steel playing), the close harmonies, the chord progression (with that rise to III on the final turnaround). Love the details of the drink names (and it can't be a coincidence that all four drinks are also the names of songs, right?!). Great triplet on "out of the." Great internal rhyme of "trees" and "breeze." Great use of the double meaning of "umbrella." A tour de force.
"Anything in a coconut will do" indeed! This is SO delightful!
I love it!!! How many voices are there? Two? Three? Gorgeous!
I want to come to this tiki party please. Lovely song! I love the Andrews Sisters vibe to the harmony vocals too.
Good lord. This is just 10000% awesome.
🍹 Very nice!
I think my jaw hit the core of the earth when this kicked in. Just, you could not have nailed this any more perfectly. From the changes to the arrangement to the performance this could be in a freaking songwriting textbook talking about the concept of pastiche!
oh boy I needed to hear this on this 0 degree day in NYC. Carley, this needs to roll right off the Fawm page and into the public ear like a river of rum. pleeease?
wonderfully recreated and put together. floating right there with you.
Well, if this isn't just a lovely little breezy bit of fresh air! And maybe just what I needed to stumble across this morning. I suppose a "mahalo" is in order!
Oh, so damn smooth. You gotta slip this in the playlist the next time you have the friends over. Loving your harmonies. So gorgeous.
I'll join the chorus of praise below - just a delightful number! Harmonies! Boom-chuck! Lap Steel! you've go it all! Great work!
What a cute little song world. I love the ending… such a cute way to recontextulize the title
Take me there! The song almost did the trick, I just need a li'l plane ticket now to get me out of the midwest. I absolutely love this style of music. Your harms were absolutely perfect. Everything about this song is perfect. The sadness it has left me with that I am not on a warm beach with something that has a tiny umbrella in it is even perfect. Well done.
Lovely harmonies. Good lord, I have Feb break coming up. I think I will find one of those kiddy pools, buy some Home Depot sand, warm it up with a nice wood fire, get some umbrellas and some rum and spend a few moments with this song by that same fire. Nice lap steel work. Nicely written. Oh, nice tag. Wicked
Got a big smile on my face the minute this started! So much fun indeed. Reminds me of The Moonlighters who I loved. (and I thought the @tippyteapot idea was hilarious)
Love this vibe off the bat, makes me think of tropical relaxation on a hammock and the lovely harmonies help even more. Great lyrical theme too, this feels authentically like an old standard. Beautiful walk down to the b-section. The little instrumental bit with the fast picked uke is a great touch too.
Well done! The lapsteel is perfect! I love this genre of music and found an old one from the 40s by a Daphne Walker. It's just the music that floats you away. Cheers!
Those harmonies, oh man . . . beautiful, and that interlood mid song.
love this!
Haha nice! My 5-year old daughter immediately started doing a silly dance when she heard your song LOL.
Wonderful harmonies! I am not super familiar with his style but I just got transported to a beach on lovely sunny day. Almost made a pina colada! Some beach boys vibes in the vocals. Very excellent song!
Haha! Nailed the sound, love the close harmony. I need a slightly scratchy record of this to spin on summer evenings.
This is such a delight!! But also - it would be a really great track for a horrendous murderous rampage in a film. Maybe skipping a bit at the end. Sorry I went dark but that is what I am hearing. Good morning :)
Oh my god, I actually love this idea and won’t be able to unsee it now 😂 thank you!!
Well this is a piece of utter joy if there ever was one!
Oh this is so fun and charming! Some much needed sunshine for February. The harmonies are so good I could listen to it forever.
This brought a huge smile to my face, and made me feel warm on a freezing Vermont night. Great harmonies! 🍹
Oh my gosh I am obsessed!! The harmonies are so creamy good and the keys at 2:10 are adorable!!!
Really love the vibe and vocals! Lyrics and harmonies are great too! Great job!
Gorgeous :). Beautiful harmonies, sways like an ocean breeze, feels relaxing. Thanks for sharing :)
