Hotaru ga Ike
Liner Notes
When I lived in Japan, I often passed through a train station called Hotaru ga Ike, or Firefly Pond. I rarely saw fireflies in Japan, but in my childhood in Ohio (US) I remember seeing them by the hundreds.
Instruments generated in #Garageband, vocals are my own. I've yet to figure out a good way to end loop-based garageband songs other than fading out.
Lyrics
The water still shimmers After dusk has gone The wind it still shivers Waiting for you to come
But you don't glimmer anymore You don't glitter anymore You've lost the glow from off your wings And we can't find you anymore
The children still gather Waiting for a glimpse We held you one summer And haven't seen you since
You don't glimmer anymore You don't glitter anymore You've lost the glow from off your wings And we can't find you anymore
Hotaru ga ike mada kirei na Demo ano hotaru ni do to aenai
(The firefly pond is still beautiful but I'll never see those fireflies again)
Comments
The melody, the atmosphere, the lyrics - they just tug at you. A devastating feeling. As a language geek I love hearing songs in different languages on FAWM. Still haven't bit the bullet and done it myself. Really awesome stuff - 本当に凄い
great production and composition... has such a tentative feeling... so emotive, Great Write!!
This made me think about the scene in The Makioka Sisters at the Firefly Festival. Reading that made me see fireflies more as rivers of lights. This song feels like it could accompany that scene in a movie.
