Liner Notes

I woke up at 4:45 this morning with an idea of how to start his one. And thankfully the thought was still there when I actually got up some 3 hours later... I reckon this one starts out quite nice. It gets an #epic tag because I remembered I'd got Spitfire's Epic Choir in a sale last year and this seemed like the right time to use it. Other than that you probably know what's going to happen... #metal #quite_nice #blackmetal

Lyrics

Ablation sears shut The wounds of words Scars stand proud Ironclad and aloof Empty are the threats The confessor has naught No hot iron Yields temptation

Ghenna stands empty now Gateways idle Galleries devoid of breath Cast out and proud Splintered yet whole Eternal schism Dogma renewed

I actually listened to this a few days ago but you know my mind's a bit of a wanderer. Didn't feel like I could proper comment at the time. Time for another listen through!

First off I picked this one to start with listening to from you because of the title. (Of course it reminded me of hearing Tool's Schism plenty when I was a young lad).

The build up was amazing, the picking/choir combo is absolutely gorgeous, and when it transitions into the heavy, boy does it do it well! Like I started getting hype as hell at 1:52 and then when it comes in heavy, it's a masterpiece. I mean to be expected as you are the master at your metallic craft. The lyrics are powerful too I particularily enjoy no hot iron yields temptation. Amazing song!

Aah you have started going to church. I am pleased you are done with black metal it cannot be healthy. Oh no you took your guitar with you....... and your demons! Again this is so relentless I just have to surrender and become a fan.

"Other than that you probably know what's going to happen…”

well, that’s why i’m here, isn’t it? meanwhile, the supple acoustic guitar work and choir samples are quite beautiful. my ear isn’t trained enough to know for sure if the chord progressions are the same from intro to the rest, but if so the contrast/continuity is quite compelling. if not, well, somehow the point still stands. congrats on taking on a full album challenge this year!

[pic]

The long intro hoodwinked me into thinking there was not going to be anything heavy and it was going to be only a subdued vibe. Oh but then it came, hell yes. Needly guitars make a nice contemplative-in-a-different-way coda.

[pic]

Ha ha... ya gotta remember that I'm a one trick pony at heart... 🤣

@ryuu

The melancholy choir parts are nice indeed, but what really feels satisfying to me is that moment when the guitar comes in. This song gives me a bit of inspiration for something I have stewing in the back of my mind, so, thank you, I guess!

[pic]

Ooo - I'm intriguid. If it has sparked an idea, let me know when it's done and I'll make sure to come over and give it a listen! 😀

@ryuu

I'll let you know!

The picking on the guitar is so clean. Once it kicks in, brutal. Love it. Blast beats on point.

[pic]

Random connection, but the epic intro to rock riff reminds me of the opening to Maiden's Book of Souls album

[pic]

the other side of sapient - that choir is good and of course i was waiting for take off - this is really full/solid really gets in the head this one - catchy metal eh!

[pic]

The build of this is so EPIC! Banging my head to the beat, listening for a second time! You've created a metal fan out of me 😂

[pic]

Ha ha... It gets everyone in the end 🤣

[pic]

You could totally kill a jedi to that intro

[pic]

I love how this clean picking almost medieval track turns into bleeeeeghhhh! The structure and harmonies are fantastic

[pic]

Thanks so much! You would not believe how long that intro took me, and how fast I wrote the second half of the song in comparison. It was a real lesson in where my comfort zone is 🤣

[pic]

that epic choir..it snuck up on me. i thought i was hearing an opera version of spartacus. and maybe i am. the climax is mad.

[pic]

Listening to this while working I almost forgot what I was listening to until the madness kicks in. Epic is accurate. Fantastic work as always.

[pic]

The way this builds is just brilliant! Epic indeed.

[pic]

The song's structure is fantastic, then the use of the electric guitars, and I really like your growl anyway. Thanks for this treat for the ears.

@val

Yes, that's beautiful and quite nice until it sears your face off. 😂 But dang, that is epic! I have Epic choir as well. ain't it great?

[pic]

It's the first time I've used it... and I love it!

[pic]
@aeye

yeah that's how you implement a choir. That was such a buttery smooth transition in to the rest of this which then proceeded to melt my face off. BRB gotta go outside and sit it on the ice and snow to reform it.

[pic]

Starts sweet and light. Melodic almost classical. Then the male choir kicks in and gives it a moody Gregorian ecclesiastical edge. Love the female chanting. Then all hell breaks loose, the skies fall and the groove starts pumping. Very cool. Very intense and only intensifies. The drummer and the guitarist must both be sweating conkers by the end. Amazing stuff. #quitenice indeed

My god, that choir is awesome. Sounds like the voices in the Star Wars Prequals during the Mustafar fight. Perfect tone-setting over that sweet acoustic.

The piece as a whole is blisteringly effective as a black metal song, keeping all of the most descriptive hallmarks of the genre without bleeding into muddyness or noise. It sounds, in a word, "releasable". I'd buy this album.
