Liner Notes

Time to get HEAVY... Blatant channeling of Morbid Angel's "Where The Slime Live" on this, and that's deliberate cos I was always curious whether I could get close to that sort of vocal effect. Turns out it's just mostly a flanger with everything turned up to 11. 😂

#metal #deathmetal

Lyrics

Crawling Dragged through life Dragged into chaos Roofless, rootless, decaying phantasm

Nothing begets nothing The scales fall from flesh You cannot percieve The intention to deny Nothing begets nothing The flesh falls from sky An anger bound in hope A fear that never dies

Reptile

Crawling Dragged back from death Dragged into chains Artless, soulless, trapped in this entropic tomb

Nothing begets nothing The scales fall from flesh You cannot percieve The intention to deny Nothing begets nothing The flesh falls from sky An anger bound in hope A fear that never dies

This is such strong work! The vocal was quite successful!

You are the only person on this planet who makes me listen to Metal and enjoy myself thoroughly every single time! I was hooked right from the beginning by what sounded like something crawling out of the earth. And the whole development of the song with all its contrasts of the arrangement is simply perfect!

[pic]

The intro built up the intrigue, then the vocals drag you down into the dirt with the wriggling reptiles, heavy! I don't think I can overstate how well the vocals are done with this track, wish I could do death vocals without ruining my vocal chords lol. The guitar work is also a perfect backing, with the heavy chugging to accent the lyrics without overshadowing them. Good shit!

Aaahhhh, Morbid Angel, one of the greatest death metal bands of all time for yours truly! This made me want to try my hand in their style of slower dark death metal, but I'm sure I won't be able to execute it nearly as well as you did here. That ominous clean guitar picking + Golum style vocals are a particularly great combination. That part actually brings also a bit of The Ruins of Beverast to my mind!

Eventually, I will find some constructive feedback to give you on one of these these tracks but damn, nothing yet, just killing it this year! 🤘 The squeal in that riff around 1:50 is 👍 (there is no chef's kiss emoji here 😀 )

Really like the structure of this one, kind of telling its own story in different acts. And that guitar! Lovely stuff

Love the title. Guitar tones are killer. I love the expansiveness of the verse. Nice use of reverb/delay. You’ve also managed to make the chorus catchy. A hell of a job

Slain.

Your guitar is so so impressive! Hot damn. At the end there just shredding the F out of the reptile. Love it.

[pic]

lol great opening then the stop and the riff was almost enter sandman style! Vox style really good love it!

And Sapient is back in 2026 with the bangers!!! Vocals on this one are especially excellent... hoarse and grimy and breathy, like an undead iguana. I'm always floored by how much polish and composition you can crank out on a whim, it's legitimately amazing.

[pic]

Thanks so much! A lot of this comes down to having a template in Cubase that I know gives a set of solid sounds. All I have to do is feed it with riffs... 🤣

[pic]

I got ASMR listening to your vocals. Haha just kidding. I love where it kicks in at 1:43.

This is cool. But everything I've read says you shouldn't have an intro for over one minute before the vocals come in. I mean, it's just not good pop songwriting. That being said, it's a great intro. Digging the slow burn. Really digging the guitars. It is impossible to sit still. I mean I'm not banging my head but I'm definitely moving. Okay, the outro is killer, kicking in nicely. Love the ending.

My singing teacher used to complain about intros when I'd take some more listenable metal tracks into my lessons to practice. She'd look at me with slight despair in her eyes, wondering if the vocals were ever going to start... 🤣

REPTILE WINS

[pic]

you are right , it wasn't far behind. ooooo watch out behind you its building! and building and the chug and growl is back! Classic Sapient - came to listen - got what i wanted.

@rica

The vocal delivery really makes this feel metal to me, the flanger on the voice gives it a heavy, distinctive character!

[pic]

Welp, that's fire! 🔥 Nice

[pic]

Ooo, love the ominous intro! And the rest of the song delivers. Heavy, indeed!

[pic]

You did not disappoint me. The chugga is back, the chugga is dark. I like how you layered the growls, they really sound "meaty", don't know the right word, but like zombies having hunger...?

@aeye

Maaaaan what a friggin huge intro to this. It lulls you in and then those growly vocals pop in. Those are some absolutely wild vocal effects. OH the panned doubled vox is chef's kiss. This is friggin awesome all the way to the final note.

Well, that was a trip! I don't know the reference track, but I like the relentless instrumentation and your vocals are always insane.
