The Remedy
Liner Notes
Confession time! I haven't liked most of the stuff I've written the last three years or so. Some of it is due to mental health stuff that was going on during the time I was writing it, some of it is not having access to a good recording setup, and some of it is just that not all songs are gems.
I think I like this one but I'm not 100% sure yet. Maybe after a good night's sleep I'll have a different perspective.
Lyrics
The universe is screaming The signs are on the ceiling Interpreting the meaning
My teeth are made of diamonds Address me by Your Highness The temperature is climbing
And you say that I'm a symptom of the malady Try and try, you can't match my energy You can sing along but I am the melody You are the poison, I am the remedy
Echoing in violence We're singing or we're silent Throwing stones at giants
And you say that I'm a symptom of the malady Try and try, you can't match my energy You can sing along but I am the melody You are the poison, I am the remedy
Red flag after red flag We are all going mad You want all that I have But I am not going back
And you say that I'm a symptom of the malady Try and try, you can't match my energy You can sing along but I am the melody You are the poison, I am the remedy

Very nice work here. Sorry to hear you were not liking the song in the past three years (that's a long time!) but if they all sound close to this then i don't know what to tell you because this one is fantastic.
One of the metrics for any modern dance song is how does it sample, and the title hook is gold. I mean you even sample it yourself before the last chorus (reeeeemdy). Love it.
The opening with the bass is great, love a good bass intro, and the percussion sounds are great throughout. Would defiantly get down and dance to this one at the club.
I like the runback on the chorus halfway through (before the bridge?), thought the repetition was very nice in the context of the song here.
the chorus is great. loved verse two in that regard, the teeth are diamonds is great, and the verse as whole echoes the sentiment perfectly. i will say the fact that verse two is there in contrast some of the other verses does cause a bit of confusion on my end. i'm left with a sense of not understanding of the chorus is ironic or direct. especially lines like "throwing stones at giants" "universe is screaming" "we are all going mad" etc etc etc. It almost feels like two voices are competing against each other in this song. i like this aspect, because the chorus itself is very... ego driven i guess is the word i would use to describe the surface level content, but the two voice thing for me smooths it out a bit.
the other thought i have is that it might be silly to break down a dance song like this. haha. because on the surface i love this love dance song and it does a lovely job of that.
This is absolutely fabulous Robyn! Two different perspectives-could even be an inner dialogue of the same person which is really cool and profound. Either way addressing the poison in such a way is the first step to stop the hurt. The production and your vocals sound top notch,
I hope you had a good night rest and fresh ears to listen to your song because it is gorgeous and truly special. You have a very beautiful voice. Your singing and playing are superb and your lyrics are very meaningful and universally appealing. Brilliant arrangement also. Absolutely love you song, performance and production.
wow, @robynmackenzie, love this tune. Energetic and complete, and as you noted, very danceable as well. I love the chords as well.
This is great, I love the thumping bass and building synths. Couple that with your crystal clear vocals and harmonies and it sounds cracking.
This is quite effective for being so simple. I like the lyrics, but the second triplet in particular.
I also find that I need the dust to settle before I can really know if anything I did here is actually good.
A toe-tapper for sure, oh, those words. That hit pretty hard. The production and the music are both amazing and the melody kind of weirdly reminded me of the Ray of Light album by Madonna. This is good music, well done.
whoa so dancy and catchy. i love feel overall and each detail is so well placed, (there is a minimal little bwiip sound for instance, so perfectly just the smallest hint) makes for compelling listening. the lyrics are great, fantastic chorus. what a great song!
Beautiful and soulful melody under the pulsing bass line, Nice start, Robyn!
So many good lines, especially in the chorus. You can sing along but I am the melody - love that. The "dance" tag was well earned. I was bopping in my chair.
Love love love.
Sooo...I would differ on your assessment of output in the +3 years, ma'am. I do, however, understand and dig where you're coming from. I'm not sure what's up with FAWM around here, but I'm getting introduced to some fabulous choruses. Seriously - there's so much wow-factor happening in the chorus. It may be the stripped down arrangement, it may be your performance. All's I know is that I feel its power. So yeah, take this gem and like it for all that you put into and all that we'll appreciate for it.
It's like that...
Loving the almost retro-80s sounds in this. The electric kit, synth bass and excitable arps give it a lovely dark electro, almost Depeche Modeish, vibe. It's a great melody too. The chorus is an absolute belter.
I like the bass line here a lot, and your vocals are amazing as usual. There's also a sort of understatedness or minimalism to this that is very appealing. It's less in-your-face than most dance tracks. It sort of sneaks up on you, which I really liked.
Whoa. This is crazy cool from my vantage point. I think your vocal choices are so distinct and specific, super hooky and compelling. The bass line is seductive and magnetic. I really like this, well done.
That chorus slaps! I especially like the last line. Great production values here, but you are the synthpop and 80's funk queen, so no surprise. You sound great here.
Love the rhythm and beat, with great lyrics. The chorus is also super catchy and great expression with the vocals. I really loved the middle part, and the whole bass line.
Wow. I especially love the melody in the chorus. I think it will stick in my head for a while, it's very catchy. The lyrics are great too!
This works so well. It morphs from feeling like it could be a song to Garbage at the start to something that's totally your own. The echo on that kick adds a really interesting feel to the track. Vocals are on point and it's super catchy as expected.
Catchy with a nice beat! I like the concept too, "you are the poison I am the remedy" is quite a hook.
Your voice is fantastic! Great work, tasteful use of effects!! Love the vibe of the lyrics and the way the beat builds along the way
I love this!!! The melody is super catchy and creative!! The vocals are awesome. I love the driving beat and the way the lyrics flow within the music. So many memorable lines!! like "You are the poison, I am the remedy" I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this one!!! Great job!!!
Ive rembered I might be bad but im perfectly good at it.. whatever song that was.
Yeah I realized that as I was writing it, lol. I really liked the melody though so I decided to keep it.
Cool song, i was getting hints of a rhianna song in parts of this so it feels familiar. Nice work
great singing and I like the minimalist beat. harmonies are a nice touch too!
This ROCKS! Dancing around to this all morning, so catchy, and the production is fabulous!
Oh, this is catchy! Love the thumping beat! Fantastic chorus. Tight right. Super performance. First song I listened to this morning and you got my day off to a great start. I have a feeling this groove will be in my head as I work today and I'm not upset by that! Excellent work on the challenge! Thank you for participating!
You have me grooving at my desk before 7:30am, well done! This is a delightful listen.
Catchy, catchy chorus! This is gonna be in my head all day. Dance pop protest anthem!
Straight into a good groove! Nice verses but that chorus smashes it! I like that ethereal pop feel to this one! nice one
Ya..love the pop beat and vocals. Love the line "You are the poison, I am the remedy". And.a killer chorus. .
Catchy pop bop. Cool beat and vocal effects. No idea where you get these catchy ideas from, thats cool
I love this! It feels so very nice to hear. Whatever may have been going on with your work before this, I hope you find solace in what you've created here. Beautiful!!
a head bopper! love the three line verse and 4 line chorus (which has a wicked melody - immediately singable) . some great rhyming in this too.
ohhh heck yeah!! immediately dancing along to it, love the lyrics (and can relate to them), those little vocal runs are so yummy, and it's so catchy! how did you make the non-vocal parts?
So glad you liked it! I used a bunch of synths in Logic 😊
Ooo, this is tremendously catchy and foot-tappy. Love the lyrics. They feel both very dark and very light at the same time. Does that make sense?
EDIT: half an hour later and I'm humming the chorus as I make breakfast. See? I said it was catchy 🤣
So cool! Love when the synth kicks in and takes it to another level. Great groove. Smart lyric line building up to your title "You can sing along but I am the melody" -- well done.
Great driving bass and beat! Nice synths too. Love your lyrics and your harmonies. A light touch of distortion on the vocals might make them match the mood even more.
I couldn't produce anything like this, Robyn, but I sure can enjoy it. Loved the harmonies and the overlaps, too.
I loves me some AAAA rhyme scheme. When you sang symptom of the malady, I heard melody. I think it works either way.
