Influences: I'm especially inspired by lyrics that make you feel, of course, but I am a sucker for lyrics that, in addition to making you feel, are bursting with poetry or thought-provoking messages.
I am a lyric writer only, so I'm looking for collaborations. This year, 2021, is my fifth FAWM and I've also done four 50/90s now. They're always amazing experiences. The talent and camaraderie here are so inspiring. I've put together some ideas for this year and will hope for lots of fresh ones. If you like to collaborate with lyric writers, know that I work really hard to make my lyrics easy to sing.
PLEASE just ask me when you'd like to collaborate. Thanks!
NOTE: A HUGE THANK YOU to all my collaborators! What a great FAWM! And thanks to everyone here. FAWM folks are absolutely the reason that February has become the best month. Thank you for the music, the encouragement and the camaraderie. You rock! 🤘

Still around! Thanks for the nice comments. I will definitely check it out. You two seem to have a special connection. I really enjoy your lyrics.
Thank you for your kind comments about my song. I appreciate yer listenin' and I am glad you enjoyed it!
P.S. if ya ever need an opposum to live in yer attic jes hit me up!
Great stuff this year.
Great collab!!! Thanks for the poke to go listen! I love it 😁
Hi Doug, glad you liked my take on early Cohen. You should listen to the first two albums ("Songs of Leonard Cohen" and "Songs from a Room") they are timeless classics.
Thank you for your kind words about my song "Choir's Back!" I appreciate it. 😀
Hi Doug, thanks for listening. Funny that the double bass caught your attention after I nearly drowned its sound with even more acoustic guitars.
Thank you so much Doug for your beautiful comments and support.
Thank you so much for your comment on Let's Get Out of Bed! It was a fun song to write. There are so many "let's go back to bed" songs out there that I wanted to do something a little different. I hope you'll be around during 50/90--I missed doing a collaboration with you this time around!
Can't resist responding to your comment on Plink Plonk Plunk. That morning, yes, the garden cart was still inside, the bikes were there, two sack trucks were in the room and my wife's flamethrower/weed burner cylinder on one and its pipe and flare, And there wasn't much room because there's a mountain of flatpack and furniture of my daughter's. This is a big room (6m x9m ) with a stone floor and half is my studio, the rest supposed to be living/dining but at present storage of said furniture:the bikes and trolley wer inside because we'd been away--don't leave break-and-enter tools outside, right? But one thing is untrue: the guitars didn't start feeding back.
Thanks for listening to my songs "Something Dark", "Blue Snow" and "Amelia" and my collab songs "Fades to Gray", "I Want to Go Back" and "Tears at Midnight", I appreciate it!!
Ditto for "Camp Meeting", Doug. Your comments have me glowing.
Thanks for listening in on Heartache Town, Doug. Appreciate the kind words.
Thank you for the kind words Doug about my song, and yes, I too will never forget writing music for "Evening Echo". Your words inspired perhaps the best chorus I've ever written. I was quite new to FAWM at the time. (didn't participate much my first year) And I did you a disservice. I don't know why I didn't think I had to ask before using a lyric created by someone else. I never apologized for doing that. I guess I'm just lucky you liked what I did with it. Anyway, I can never seem to get a good vocal recording of my voice for new songs, so I don't tend to sing for FAWM. I take a while to learn to sing songs. If I didn't have that problem, I would be asking you if I could write more music for your excellent lyrics. I hope you have a good and safe year until Feb 2022 when I hope to 'see' you again. 😀
Thanks, Doug. Very kind of you.
"And that's what makes you a writer!"
I can neither confirm nor deny that assertion. 😉
Thank you! We love playing together and writing songs so much. Can't wait to be able to gig again!
Thx for comment on Banjo-Guitar Tune. ..i was fun to go.
Hey, Doug. The pleasure was mine. I love collaborations. Though this year I have only done one where I put the lyrics to existing music (Collab with Monty).
I have probably overdone things this year. But there is a reason for that. I live in a country where people know I can sing well, but 98% of them haven't a clue whether my lyrics have anything to say other than "Baby, I love you" 🙄
So, FAWM is my annual opportunity to get feedback from native English speakers... and other songwriters. This was especially important this year, since I haven't performed in public since January 2020. This 50+ song splurge was probably a delayed reaction to "The Plague Year".
There is also the factor that at my age, each FAWM could be my last 😈. But I do hope I can participate in many more before the old chassis falls apart or the fuel pump goes wonky, or whatever 😜
Thanks for your comment, it’s been productive and fun
Hey Doug can i use Never never never on my wednesday podcast Theresa is ok with that thx J
Hi there! Thank you so much for the comment on "Damn the Man!"
Thanks for the nice comment on "Vista", Doug. "Haunting but delicate" is about all I can do these days! 😄😎
Thanks for the kind feedback for Dark Horse!
I sent you an email.. cheers
Allow me to piggy back on thanks regarding "Just Words". Even though Jeff did all the heavy lifting, it's one of the pieces I'm most proud of having been a part of.
You are a good man, Doug. 🙂
Thank you, Doug. Your kind comments on Just Words mean a lot.
It's great to see you here again -- you've been busy, too 😀
Thanks for the comment on my latest collab with Tammy. I know that the local Renn Faire, usually held over 2 weekends in May, has already announced they will not be having it this year.
Thanks much for your comment on Anger!
No need to apologize-- it's great that you are in such demand 😁
Goodness! I'm too slow, everyone takes your lyrics before I can! Ah well, we'll always have the Sofa Made To Look Like A Cow.
Hey thanks for listening and commenting on Oh Blue! It was a warm life in a cold place...😊
Thanks for the comment on Tears at Midnight, my collab with Tammy.
Thank you so much for your really lovely feedback on 'Safe From Harm. Such kind words. Thank you!
Haha! Thanks for your comment on Sweet Dreams. Like most songs I write about, there's an element of real life, but then you twist the knife a bit. 😉
I'm chasing something down, Doug. The bridge is throwing me off a little, but it feels doable.
Thanks much for your comments on Pine Needles and congrats on your FAWM finish!
Thanks for breaking the zong on Mr Boffin. Your comments were right on target and in fact helped me to see exactly what it was I had done!
Thanks for listening and for helping me catch that typo! Looking forward to listening to your stuff. 😊
Haha thanks for your comment I think Iris sounds pretty cute actually 🙂
Thank you, Doug, for the compliments on "Three Big Words". Inspired by V-Day.
Prince of Poignancy! 😀
And of course you can say OMG! You have my permission to use that even when having the opposite reaction. 😉
Thanks for the kind words and inspiration, Doug.
It’s up. I hope you like it!
Thanks for your kind comments, there was an orchestra involved but it was in a box. 😀
@crisp1 Thanks so much for your note. I'm so glad you're happy with it. I am definitely finding through comparison with others here that my approach is quite different; so much so that I lot of people don't know how to describe it!
I'm so glad I took a shot at your wonderful words.
I"m definitely interested in Pardon My Love. I'm hopefully going to work on it today. Granted, I had two different people work on one of my songs, and it was interesting to see the different takes on it!
Thanks so much for your comment on the Siren’s Lament!
Hi and thanks for commenting on my song, "Puzzled"!
Hi Doug, thank you for the comments. It's good to see that you've gotten so many collabs. I'll still try to catch one of those gems at some point. 😀
Thanks for the comment on my rock opera song!
Thanks for your notes on Jerry, Doug. Couple of things in response:
1/ I'd been feeling lyrically a bit samey recently so I was trying out the word association exercise in the How To Write One Song book. (If you've not seen it, there's a thread: https://fawm.org/forums/topic/11398/#c238775). I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
2/ Elvis and the Attractions is a great comparison for this one. I love Steve Nieve's use of the Vox/Farfisa organ in those early records. So thanks for that!
Thanks for your very encouraging message. I love FAWM and try to be as good a participant as I can. As for how I come across, well that's pretty much how I roll 😉 - my wife of 34 years would probably confirm that 😜
You’re welcome! I have been searching for our annual collaboration, but every time I find a lyric I like, it’s been claimed....and then I fall in love with the arrangement. Your lyrics are popular, Doug!
Thank you for the very kind feedback on "Mildred Is Free".
Thanks for the generous comments regarding Your Daddy.
Thanks for the listen and comment on the collab with Geoff!
Thank you for your kind words on "Worry!" I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Good morning Mr Crisp! I'm so glad you enjoyed your first listen to When the house burns Down.
I have to tell you the music wrote itself as I was reading your lyrics which were a work of pure genius as far as I'm concerned. A relentless stream of metaphors for lost love as one of the other commentators said. I'm very proud of this work and honored I had the opportunity to express myself musically through your words.
Hiya thanks for my comment, so glad I've found you as I struggle with lyrics and was thinking this year I could try collaborating with a lyric writer. I see they've all been snapped up but will keep my eye out!
Thanks for your comments on my Cross the Line song!
Thanks for the listen and comment on my Zoom song!
Just posted "Nothing but Deluxe" - I hope you like it.
Our Collab is up. hope you like it!
yay!! Glad you liked it.
Wow your lyrics get snapped up quickly..as well they should! Did we do The Rivers Run Dry last year or was it another song? I'll keep stopping by to see what you got. Visited your website as well. Nicely done. 😀
Just roughed something out for your Just one.
Thanks for giving my "Armstrong Street" a listen.
Thank you for the comment on Covid Requiem.
Thanks so much for the comment on my song! Happy FAWM!
Hi Doug. Thanks for giving my "Remakes" a spin. Hope to hear your stuff later this FAWM.
Hi, Doug! Happy Fawming
Hey Doug! Hope to see you around this year! Happy Fawming!
Hi, Doug, I will probably be around. I work from home full time so my schedule is either more flexible or more crazy, depending. I haven't written music with words for awhile so it might be good for me. Talk soon!
thanks Doug 😀
Hi Doug! It's always great to see you on here.
Thank you, Doug. 😀 Let's see how we go this time around, eh? 😉
Hey lyriCAL crisp1! Good to see you here. Happy FAWMing.
Hi Doug, looking forward to more great lyrics from you!
Hello hello! I think we were going to do a thing and it was my turn and then I started and it was March and (insert excuses and procrastination for no legitimate reasons here). When I get to sorting through my notes, I will undoubtedly find my good intentions buried there. In summary, I will look for an opportunity to redeem myself while I look forward to more sets of your excellent lyrics this year!
Yes, I will be writing some songs this February...Looking forward to playing with a set of your lyrics!
Hi Doug! I will be around but probably not as much as I’d like. Life’s a little crazy right now but, if anything, I’ll be looking for collabs...that means you 😉
Hey Doug! Glad to see ya back here! Looking forward to enjoying your lyrics again! Maybe we can do a collab!
All happening again! Off we go!
Hi Doug. Same to you. Your lyrics are indeed easy to sing.
Thank you, Mr. Crisp! I am a fan!
Thanks! Though if I only get quantity, I'll take that too 😀
Have a great FAWM--looking forward to more of your wonderful lyrics!
Obviously you are on my collab list again this time if that's OK with you! 😀 No songs about sofas though 😉
Hey! You're back. Awesome. Have a spiffy FAWM. 😀
And now I know your face....I am smiling at you friend for I hope you remember mine and always happy to know you will be writing down your amazing thoughts and dreams.....I will come around to check in with you to see what you are creating. Happy FAWMing!!!
