Artist Bio

Influences:   I'm especially inspired by lyrics that make you feel, of course, but I am a sucker for lyrics that, in addition to making you feel, are bursting with poetry or thought-provoking messages.

I am a lyric writer only so I'm looking for collaborations. This year, 2020, is my fourth FAWM and I've also done three 50/90s now. All have been amazing experiences. The talent and camaraderie here are always so inspiring. I've got lots of ideas for this year and I work really hard to make my lyrics super "singable." PLEASE just ask me when you'd like to collaborate. Thanks!

Last year I focused on poetic lyrics. This year, based on the ideas I've been stockpiling, it's looking more like I'll be telling lots of stories.

OUTRO: Thanks to all the musicians who collaborated with me! What a fantastic FAWM!

Hi Doug, thanks for listening to old motor. That song might be worth a rerecording

  • @matthew62  Mar 24

Thank you for the link to the Lyle Lovett performance. As I watched, it became clear you have given me a truly humbling compliment, as well as another musician to enjoy. Thank you.

  • @sph  Mar 21

Fine that you're still here and not a fake member 😉

  • @matthew62  Mar 20

Thanks for your kind comments regarding "there's a reason they say..." Much appreciated. I haven't listened to much Lyle Lovett. I guess I need to take a closer look!

  • @debs  Mar 8

You are absolutely right about that duplicate "big" in the chorus on "Big Girl Pants" - thank you so, so much for pointing that out! We were actually singing the placeholder "Some other line here" until just before we recorded it so there was definitely some "Okay, what real line can we put here to make it work?" 😁

  • @tamsnumber4  Mar 8

Thanks for listening to my collab song "Who We Really Are", I appreciate it!

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Mar 4

Oh thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated 😀 Glad you liked my singing on this beautiful song.

  • @bitshred Mar 3

Oh, my pleasure listening to your collabs. I didn't realize you were a lyricist. I hope to someday collab and write to one of yours.

  • @woolford Mar 2

Hi. I’m truly sorry I didn’t manage to tackle “Long Ago”.
If I come back next year, I promise to make it up to you.. 😞

  • @timlaborie Mar 2

Thanks for your comment on Mississippi Queen. I'm sorry that I have not been very active this year keeping up with everyone's work.

  • @roblincoln  Feb 29

Thank you for your kind comments on my song Harrisonville. I appreciate that you liked the lyrics. You are a very fine lyricist. Maybe next year we can collab.

  • @sph  Feb 29

Hi Doug, the month was too full with other things. I'm going to read through your lyrics in March.

  • @theresaj  Feb 28

Thank you, Doug! I loved these lyrics so much and I'm honored to add music. I hope you like it. I did change one line in the chorus because "asking for a delay" just wasn't singing right. I hope you don't mind but I think if you heard it you'd agree too. If not, I can record it again tomorrow with your full lyrics. I would understand so please, please let me know if it's a problem! I really try not to change other peoples' lyrics.

  • @colgoo Feb 27

Love Emily Dickinson! Thanks for the comment on my 14th song and for letting me play with your lyrics yet again.

  • @billysea  Feb 27

Over a double FAWM, great job. Thanks for stopping by and listening to my late entry into this wonderful month 😀

  • @alg123  Feb 25

Hello! Thanks for stopping by and for your lovely comments on Milling the Curd. Do you make cheese too?? And, holy FAWMage! You are putting it out there. Congratulations.

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 25

Thanks for your comments on my song, "Your Last Goodbye" and "Half Way There", I appreciate it!

  • @pvk2020  Feb 25

I have now explored Baku. Sometimes we get so locked up in our own worlds we never even know there are countries- Azerbaijan. Thanks

  • @mikeb Feb 23

Thanks for the listen and comment on my song!

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 23

Thank you for the kind words on my erotical song.

  • @tawny249  Feb 23

I write music to all of my lyrics. I just don't get the chance to make vocal recordings decent enough to post publicly within the span of a few weeks, lol. Granted, the tunes are usually destined for heavy tweaking for the next month anyway, but yes, I write music for everything. I'm glad you got something out of of that particular one. It's very personal to me.

  • @aesthetic72  Feb 22

Thank you so much for your very kind comments on Sundazzle! You make me blush!

  • @natalieedelson  Feb 21

Thanks for your kind words on ‘shady tree’ the trees are between el acebo and molinaseca. I first saw them in 2012 walking along the camino Santiago de Compostela then again in 2015 and also last fall/when I was sad to see the damage to them caused by recent wildfires - guessing they are more than 500 years old .

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 20

Aha, in a normal year I'd love to give it a bash but I'm going to be really up against it getting close to 14 as it is this year. Also, yeah, no ghosts. I mean the last verse is kinda numinous, but... yeah.
Really looking forward to hearing someone interpret this song though, it really is lovely.

  • @theresaj  Feb 18

It’s up! I hope you like it! Thanks so much for the lyrics. I had fun!

  • @wacha  Feb 18

I have never read Mysteries of Pittsburgh but I'll check it out.

  • @woolford Feb 17

Thanks man. I’ll try to get something done on Long Ago tonight, and if I don’t get anywhere I’ll hand it back. Hit a bit of a slump atm and hoping for an injection!

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 16

Thanks for your comment on I'll Do The Things I Do, Doug. This was one that came out very quickly and I wasn't sure about it.
I think accents in singing are really interesting, aren't they? I think there's an element that when we learn to sing we emulate the vowel sounds of the people we've been listening to (same as we do when we learn to talk, picking up the accent of those around us). But I suspect there's also a culture of thinking that strong accents in songs are distracting and less professional in some way (the way RP was in the 50s) - although tell that to the Proclaimers... I dunno, its a theory - could be baws but it's a theory. 😀

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 15

Hi Doug-Thanks for your kind words! Yes, I'd love to see the lyrics and see if I can create a melody. Graaemusic at gmail dot com is my address!

  • @bjunker  Feb 15

Thanks for listening to "Star LIght"!

  • @misterd Feb 15

Thanks you for listening and commenting so positively on my piano song . Appreciate it !

  • @spunky4455 Feb 13

I haven't forgotten about our collab. I haven't written anything at all this week because I'm rehearsing for a Friday night live show. After that, it's back to FAWM.

  • @owl  Feb 11

Thanks so much for your kind comment!

  • @davewermers Feb 10

Thanks for checking out Broken Window and leaving a comment.

  • @goodshipsusie  Feb 9

Thanks for the feedback! Steve is my guitar teacher and he wouldn't really want me in his band 'cause he's way better than I am!

  • @corinnelucy Feb 8

    And done. 😊

  • @colgoo Feb 7

You have a pretty great return on investment....I see that almost every set of lyrics you have written so far has found its way to a collaborator. I think that is a testament to your skills as a writer.

  • @kadmad202  Feb 7

Thanks so much for the nice words about Kindness. Appreciate it!

  • @wacha  Feb 6

You are very welcome, no need to rush to get me the song.

  • @izaakalexander  Feb 2020

Perfect! My gmail is linked to my FAWM profile. Send the lyric that way when it's ready, and I'll practice my sneaky sounding clarinet scales in the meantime. Looking forward to it!

  • @izaakalexander  Feb 2020

So-- your traditional lyric idea is the kind of song I write often so it's the easy win--- but this is FAWM so I'm looking for the bigger challenge. Set me up with the 'Spy Who Wouldn't Love Me' lyric first - and then we'll fall back to the open road if I'm struggling or we want to do two by February 29.

I'd say I'm about as good as your average high school music student on those instruments I listed. 😀 Learning new instruments is a real joy for me. My current project is the harp. It's weird.

  • @audrey  Feb 2020

Thanks for the kind words on my song Caring Neighbours. I appreciate them.

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 2020

You're welcome! I'm very much enjoying your writing this year!

  • @spunky4455 Feb 2020

Thanks, Doug, great writing as always. I saw another person make an acoustic guitar version of your song so the alternative was an easy choice for me. And I'm more of a Zevon guy anyway.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2020

Have not forgotten my collab with you. On the slate to complete today.

  • @izaakalexander  Feb 2020

Hey thanks for the comment, and I'm looking forward to a lyric from you for the random collab!!! Honestly, lyrics are my big creative hang up. I can write music like crazy but always wish I had something more to sing about. 😀 Also--- given enough time this month, you should also choose a feature instrument for our collab from this list: ... ready ... guitar (nylon or steel string), mandolin, violin (a.k.a. fiddle), viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, soprano recorder, trumpet, trombone, harp, harmonica, or didgeridoo. Being able to play all these is one of the great things about being a music teacher. Still, some of these I have to transport from work to home, so let me know a.s.a.p. so we don't run out of FAWM time.

  • @cleanshoes Feb 2020

Thanks so much for your comment on 'West of Here'! Neko Case is definitely an inspiration, so it's nice to hear a comparison 😀

  • @brandondale72  Feb 2020

Thanks for checking out my new jam, "Farmer Affliction". I'm totally gonna quote you now... My music even sounds good without weed. haha. Thanks for the visit!

  • @colgoo Feb 2020

I’m so happy that you’re happy with the song. Thank you for letting me play with your lyrics and pretend that I wrote your words....

  • @colgoo Feb 2020

Our song is up now!!! Hope you like it.

  • @wacha  Feb 2020

Thank you for the feedback on "Gretel" I fixed my typo. It's always nice to get such lovely feedback especially when I'm not super confident in the song.

  • @wacha  Feb 2020

Thanks for the kind words on "Home". I struggle.with some of the more personal songs. It's always great to get such lovely feedback.

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 2020

Hey dude, thanks for your comment and pointing out to me - a Glaswegian and therefore blind to any swear word below the level of f**k - that "shit" is indeed a swear word. Sigh. 😀

  • @nateger  Feb 2020

Thanks for checking out my song! I've been writing these uplifting tunes lately and I also want to honor the sadder stuff. Just trying to trust the process and let the song be what it wants to be

  • @jcooper  Feb 2020

    Thank you!

  • @dreamscuba  Feb 2020

Thanks for your comments on “Into The Unknown”. Much appreciated.

  • @pcob1993  Jan 2020

Thank you man, and you too.

  • @pcob1993  Jan 2020

Glad It's Night cracked me up..... I'd like to collab with you if that's okay..

  • @silvermediapro  Jan 2020

hey thanks buddy! i'm excited to see what lyrics you come up with this year, & i'll be sure to jump on putting some to music 😉

  • @colgoo Jan 2020

Let’s do this! Not sure how productive I will be, but ready to give it another try.

  • @jessicagraae  Jan 2020

Thanks for your kind words! Happy FAWMing!

  • @tamsnumber4  Jan 2020

Hello wonderful friend and collaborator! I can't wait to see where your mind is roaming and writing!!!

  • @ayehahmur  Jan 2020

Heya, Doug. Hi back! I think in order to stay calm I'm going to have to walk away from the site for a week, otherwise I'll peak too early. 😀
Good luck with your warm ups. Looking forward to seeing the results in a couple of weeks!

  • @theresaj  Jan 2020

Hi Doug! I’m very happy to see you here as well! Let’s create some music together!

  • @jacobeverettwallace  Jan 2020

Hey Doug, thanks! Glad to see you around. I always enjoy your lyrics! Happy Fawming!

  • @paulhenry  Jan 2020

Hey @crisp1 good to hear from you. Looking forward to Feb.

  • @oddbod  Jan 2020

Doug, I just noticed your email ended up in my junk mail.
I've no problem with you entering Grace in a contest - BTW, my actual name is Tim Conway

  • @oddbod  Jan 2020

Hi. I enjoyed collaborating at 50/90 (Grace). Maybe a repeat here

  • @sph  Jan 2020

    Hi, back at it again!

  • @tawny249  Jan 2020

Yo! Looking forward to some more sweet lyrics! 😁 Happy Fawming!

  • @metalfoot  Jan 2020

Let's do a song or two again this year!
