Plain White
Liner Notes
I can't really call this a one take anymore because I've not been happy with it all day. So I switched back to my tried and true acoustic nonsense and I like this one way better. Sorry to all you purists.

Lyrics
i'm here inside my tower i guess you'd call it ivory five years since we moved in pictures on the wall but they're still plain white
because it feels right to me
hiding in plain sight i am not the one who's running and i'll sleep tonight knowing that you might be gunning for me might be gunning i never felt right not since that time last summer 90 degree nights take your aim if you're coming for me
if it was the last thing i could do i wouldn't take you in turn the volume down check is in the mail that green is plain white
none of this feels right to me

Yeah, there's at least three sides to this story.
Does it really matter? The one take thing. I’ve been listening to many songs here but not commented on a lot. Some of them I’d like to hear again in a “polished” version whatever that means. This is one of them. I wonder what your influences are - if any.
Well, I don't generally like to play in E despite the fact that it seems to be the guitar's natural setting. It makes me uncomfortable. As far as influences...I was trying to listen to a Crystal Gayle record last night which didn't work out because I had a faulty cable, I reckon. Still trying to diagnose my Hi Fi situation.
LOL. I know what living in symbiosis with a guitar can be like, but my advice (not that you need it) is to care more about what you like and tell that guitar to be a little less self‑indulgent.
I was listening to the melody and chords, and it sounded a bit more “European” for lack of a better word — but maybe that faulty cable is the real culprit.
Interesting, I think of one take as just meaning you got the whole thing out in a single take, not the first one. Also not like a badge of honor or anything. How ever many takes it took, I love this one. Something about the stacking of the rhymes and the way the lines unfold reinforces that idea of running away and hiding out and building defenses. Feels like there’s more than one side to this story and in the last line maybe the singer is admitting it. The ivory line made me think of the word hypothetical.
