My parents' 49th wedding anniversary is September 10th. I wrote them this song in celebration, a high-level biography of their lives together.

I never know what style my songs are going to come out as. This sounds like it belongs in a musical, ha!

Isn't it wonderful when that happens? What a lovely tribute to your parents 💚 Is it all the major chords that give it the "musical" quality? It certainly lends to an upbeat vibe throughout.

I am not sure exaclty what it is, but perhaps it is the major! Also likely the constant modulation. I've played trumpet in a lot of pit orchestras and there are sometimes key changes every 8 beats! This one sounds like Seussical to me, if you're familiar with that score at all. Anyways, thanks much for the comment!!

One of the singer-songwriters here in town sings a song like this and like hers, I really admire telling a parents story like this. My parents marriage is a lovely thing but I'm not sure how I'd approach telling that story with quite the charm of this. Love it.

were this son part of a musical, i see it as a piece for the chorus, with the female lead dancing out for the bridge, and you would need a similar verse for the man to come onstage and join her,,then would follow a duet, finishing up with a full chorus surrounding the pair. and reprising the chorus it think it would made a terrific scene.

I can picture it in my mind as you describe! Now maybe I should choreograph the whole fam to do it next time we're together...or maybe that's the 11 grandkids' job!

I love your voice and piano on this song, and it is such an upbeat and loving gift to give your parents! Happy 49th to them! The feeling and arrangement of the song remind me of "Three Is a Magic Number" and "Figure Eight" and some of my other favorite songs from Schoolhouse Rock!

I really like how fluidly your chord choices move between keys, while never feeling forced. F over D is an ace move btw! The way the hook mirrors the stabs on the keys is awesome too. What a lovely tribute to your parents’ marriage - I’m sure they’ll absolutely love it :)
