Liner Notes

Humans have always been fascinated by flight. For thousands of years our marvel was centred on birds. Then the Wright brothers came along and let us take to the skies ourselves. Regrettably, personal flying has become more of a chore with all the airport security measures and sardine seating.

In her lyrics, Cindy has wisely chosen to focus on the more innocent wonders about flight. That's what attracted me to her words.

Lyrics

If I could take flight Would I be a kite Or a silent owl Flying through the night?

If I could just glide A bewitching ride On a magic carpet Then fly worldwide?

Would I fly day or night Without any fright Would I fly free? Would I soar like never before Opening new doors for all to see?

If I could take wing Perhaps even sing Just like a bird On the upswing

Perhaps aviate Zigzagging or straight Would I dart or not Or be smooth as a skate?

Would I fly day or night Without any fright Would I fly free? Would I soar like never before Opening new doors for all to see? Opening new doors for all to see

You just can't go wrong with the words of @cindyrella and this is a lovely collaboration with @paul_pedersen that touches the sky!

Thanks, Gwyn. You have to admit that I know how to pick the right lyricists.

Sry cool tune y’all! My heads bobbing along. Some very cool touches throughout

Thanks for coming to our little airport.

Wonderful melody composition here, Paul, and a well considered touch on the vocal. And it's all such a nice fit for Cindy's lovely lyric. "Smooth as a skate" is a cool and unique metaphor. The song has an innocence about it that would make it a great fit for something meant for a child, although lots of other possibilities as well.

Thanks for checking out Fly. I appreciate your kind response to it. I hadn't thought of it as a children's song, but, now that you mention it, it does have that potential.

I read these words yesterday and meant to comment on how much I love them. And now they have these lovely, easygoing musical treatment - awesome collab!

Thanks very much for your kind response to our song, Chip.

Just seeing your reference to upcoming cataract surgery. I had that and I THINK it's a pretty quick recovery. It was a few years ago and I think I remember having to wear an eye patch over one eye, and when I went to our monthly poker group at a friend's house and he introduced his wife to me, I said, "Well, YOU'RE a sight for sore eyes...", and that remains my best Dad Joke ever. By the way, great song, you two! ❤️

The cataract surgery was in July and was totally successful. I'll have to remove that reference from my FAWM bio. My eyepatch requirement was for the first day and each night for a week. I was happy when the week was up. Even happier when the lengthy eyedrop routine was completed. Medical history aside, thanks for visiting Fly.

I like the tune, and the progression you've chosen. And of course @cindyrella's lyrics always rise to the occasion. Beautifully done!

Thanks for taking a chance on our tune, Griff. I tried using rising chords to mirror the idea of flight.

Lovely! I was watching the video of Adam Savage with Laura Mathews as she demonstrates her amazing wings this afternoon, and this would be a perfect accompaniment!

[pic]

If that's the Laura Mathews who just posted about her blue wings, then I'm impressed. Amazing, detailed work! And if you think Fly is suitable accompaniment for her work, I'm truly honoured. It wouldn't have happened without the inspired lyrics from Cindy. Thanks for listening.

I so love how this feels like flight! I love the simplicity and beauty of the music and such good vocals too! Thanks so much for this!

Thanks for letting me take a flying leap at it, Cindy!
