Milk Song
by @theodamus
Liner Notes
This is a very emo song about something very stupid: I have been sick this week, so I ordered grocery delivery. When it arrived it included 8 litres of milk which I didn't order or want, and it took several phone calls and 3 delivery driver trips to get the ludicrous amount of milk taken away.
So in the spirit of old school emo here's a silly overwrought and overcomplicated song about first world problems, the crushing weight of abundance, convenience, and the guilt of calling gift-horse customer service, in 7/8 for some reason with barely any voice, what else is FAWM about?
Lyrics
I've been out too late this week Blessings got the best of me Hey computer, bring me what I need
I've got backwards allergies You bless me then I sneeze Hey computer, tell me what it means
All these horses open mouthed Every time I turn around
It's too much for me Too much for me Too much for me
On the other side of streets Greener than concrete Hey computer, bring me what I need
Got it backwards making threats May your blessings never end Hey computer, tell me what it means
All these bushes full of birds Every time I say the word
It's too much for me Too much for me Too much for me

OMG you had me at #midwestemo. That's my jammmmm. That nasty rhythm guitar in the background is fantastic. I really enjoyed what you released last FAWM and I was sad because I thought you weren't going to be here. Thanks!!!!
Oh man! This is so good. The picking acoustic is grand and then the distortion shows up to make it even better.
Absolutely love your lyrics. Lovely that a failure of the delivery led to something so amazing! The poetry of it all!
This is a banger! Well done turning an excess of milk into some biting social commentary.
I LOVE the “hey computer” lines. The 7/8 sounds really natural here, which I feel like is very difficult to accomplish! Very cool that you made this from eight liters of milk.
Love, love, love how the song's theme of "I should be grateful yet I'm not" (or maybe "I'm living in a world where everything is gratitude turned backwards, blessings become curses") is carried out through fresh twistings of proverbs: "count your blessings"; "don't look a gift horse in the mouth"; "the grass is always greener on the other side"; "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
Fab couplet: "I've got backwards allergies / You bless me then I sneeze." Weirdly, I hear "Got it backwards making threats / May your blessings never end" as the Midwest (United States) tactic of using "bless" to curse, .e.g, "Bless her heart!" But is this trope also common in New Zealand?
Finger-picking 7/4 is a bold move! Bravo. Love the combo of acoustic and hyper-distorted guitar. Great to hear that voice again.
Love so much about this - that it comes from 21st century living, sharp lyrics including that "backwards allergies" couplet, the sweet picking against big slabs of noise. A really, really cool song!
