Liner Notes

I didn’t know where I was going with this — I just wrote to the “summer lovin’” prompt and ended up here — uneven line lengths and varying rhyme might need revision but then again, maybe not. It’s a vibe.

I’m writing lyrics-only until I can sit down with my ukulele to finish this.

Lyrics

It’s too hot for the hot tub And I am bruised grass Bury me under a spread of shade Tell me like summer you’ll stay

Touch me cool, be cellar floors Sit on the low stone wall Find the soft dip There used to be streams here Ice to the top of the glass, how to sip

In the garage, a rock tumbler spins Insistently loud but it’s just a hum Cicadas are calling and calling for someone My chalky hands under the hose-warm spill And I’m wondering when you will…come

Come in, let the screen door slam Shout to me that you are home Let the sweat dry down Be the flat slab sky Be the one white cloud Be the fan that goes around

(Brief Instrumental)

It’s too hot for the hot tub And I am bruised grass Bury me under a spread of shade Tell me like summer you’ll stay

Fascinating images. I like the poetic lines in contrast to more mundane descriptions.

So many wonderful sensory images and longing in the words. Lovely emotive take on the prompt!

It’s enough color and scenery to carry a song, and then there’s the mood, too hot to care but caring anyway, the slow-motion breathlessness of summer.

Some lovely images in here and a uke would really set the lyrics off nicely I think. Good take on the prompt.

Nice! I like the bruised grass image. I also could feel the cellar floor. The coolness of the image gave me a bit of relief :)
