Liner Notes

A @billwhite51 lyric is always a great gift; but sometimes... also a challenge 😅 . Bill sent me these evocative verses a few weeks back, but it's taken awhile to work out the best approach musically-speaking. He mentioned a Suede track (Pantomime Horse) as a reference, and I also felt like they had a bit of a Led Zep vibe. However I was still struggling until, this morning, I sat down and jammed the main guitar riff and that kind of brought everything together! I've used quite a liberal amount of phase pedal and echo on this one, but I figured if you're writing a song about catacombs...

Thank you, Bill, it's always a journey and I never regret taking it when it's done :)

Lyrics

Dragged like human oxen Across the molten field While a flame out of the mountain Turned the mud to Steel I caught but couldnt keep ya In the catacombs of Arequipa

The heart of the heart The soul of the soul A piece of the piece Or the whole of the whole

Gladiators and masturbators Are tied to the hull While their women like fish Are thrown to the gulls There was nothing I could teach ya Outside the catacombs of Arequipa

Like the criminal who cried "Jesus died instead of I" There must be a reason Will someone tell me why?

The heart of the heart The soul of the soul A piece of the piece Or the whole of the whole

We ascended to heaven Then screamed as we fell Through a trampolina stretched Between heaven and hell I ran but couldnt reach ya In the catacombs of Arequipa

In the soul of a soul I tried to hide Thinking I was all alone But you were at my side I didnt even have to seek ya In the catacombs of Arequipa

Anything marked "riffage" gets my vote. Huge guitars! It really does sound like Led Zeppelin. Lyrics are just fab, from the trampolina and the fish women and steel mud. Rocking!

Whoa this gets BIG 🤘🤘. Guitars and drums are so on point. Vocals soaring 🤩. The perfect tempo for some head nodding and vibin’. Absolutely loved this stanza “ The heart of the heart The soul of the soul A piece of the piece Or the whole of the whole”

I read this one yesterday but didn't have time to listen. That's one hell of a poem on its own. I had to speak it to my living room before pressing play. Here we go. Man, when you bust out from that fingerpicking and launch into full hard rock mode, I just about fell out of seat. Whoa, and then you set us down so gently. Masterful. At first I thought, David seems like too nice a guy to sing this...maybe not

Hoo lee sheeet. Before my face got rocked off, I would never have guessed how well the title could work as a hook. Repeat it, repeat it! This is a monster collab, great work gents. Neil Young on a blimp. This is the anchor track to your new band's first hit record and cult following.

This is absolutely stunning! It's coming alive on my phone but should be filling a stadium somewhere. Sounds huge.

Definitely some Jimmy Page-inspired (and Axel Rose, too) guitar work! Great vocal work with Bill's inimical mystic story.

Got dayumn that guitar sounds incredible! The lyrics are beautifully written and extremely evocative and provocative and David rose to the challenge of breathing life into them love when you guys collab. The production is so spot on.

Holy cow this is awesome. As you both know I'm not much familiar with classic rock music, but this gives me that epic feeling I miss A LOT in today's music. Big riffs, a great melody, awesome lyrics. What more should I say? I hope you publish this one.

Everything's already been said, but let's re-iterate: Great lyrics, great performance, great production and an allround great song! You have my stamp of approval! ;)

Really heavy rock song with 2 of my fav musicians. This one in particular comes with awesome lines like "We ascended to heaven Then screamed as we fell" Super great collab. The soundscape is so well laid out and the voice ...well you already know I love your voice and this song makes the lyrics come to live so perfectly.

Wow, this is seriously good! Yeah, definitely got some Led Zeppelin vibes going on. The lyrics are excellent and you've certainly done them justice

That's absolutely epic lads. In at least two sense of the word. The lyrics really do have a mythic quality to them, so I can see why David thought of Led Zep. The arrangement is massive, stunning, but honestly, it's the riff that shines out in this one. It's pure 100% gold. Great job. Awesome collaborating.

I’ll second Froggy’s HOLY COW! This is epic in every way. I was listening in pure wonder and astonishment thinking about DT pulling this off, under any circumstances, let alone during FAWM. Seriously blown away. Bill, you set this up with those lyrics. There had the be something unique and special musically to make it all work well. This is not child’s play. Guitar playing sounds so good on this track, maybe the best yet. Kudos…

HOLY COW! I turned the volume up to max in my headphones; my ears won't like it later, but my brain needed it! I feel like I am spinning an undiscovered Zeppelin vinyl right now. The lyric is so amazing, everything about this is so superb!

@sbs

Led Zeppelin meets John Lennon - what a collab that is! Definitely has that @billwhite51 stamp on the lyrics. Love the way you sing that second “Whoa o o” - and that final crash - perfect!

Oh yup i hear the LZ influence here even a biy lyrically but a bit cleverer of course! I' m back with the boys late nights , booze and music blaring out! Good use of delay and echo! It is a good lyric with excellent word as we are used to expecting , but man you've squeezed all the juice out of it and shared it around - and that guitar! great song for me to reach my comment goal!
