Challenge: VOCAL CALL, INSTRUMENTAL RESPONSELiner Notes
David Taro: Vocals, Melody, Lyrics, Piano, B3 Organ Dan Vaillancourt: Vocals, Lyrics, Guitar, Mandolin, Percussion, Bass, Mixing Sarah Wynia Smith: Vocals, Trumpet
Dan Says: Well, David sent me a wonderful lyric and a voice memo of this song. I wrote my verse. I arranged it and added some things with strings, vocals and banged on some things. David added things with keys and vocals. And I knew it needed a little more fanfare, so I invited Sarah to add some trumpet and join in on vocals to complete the trifecta. Mix, mix, mix and here we are my friends. Thank you!
David Says: Dan did so much of the heavy-lifting here, I'm hugely grateful! And what a masterstroke to rope in Sarah. As soon as I heard her vocals and that trumpet part over the outro it just put a massive smile on my face that I don't think has left since 😄
Sarah (@wynia) Says: This song is such a feel good anthem dedicated to friends (like us FAWMily) getting together each year to make some beautiful art. What an absolute pleasure to add some 🎺🎺🎺 and voice!

Lyrics
Same Time Every Year
[VERSE 1] (David) Hello, old friend Has it been that long I know we had plans And failed to keep 'em
But now, old friend Let me catch you up There’s new people in my life You’ve got to meet ‘em
[CHORUS] And we’ll always have the same old space At the same time every year No matter what we both have faced We’ll meet at the same time every year
[VERSE 2] (Dan) Well, hello my friend Yes, a year has passed Plans can be hard to keep But, so nice to see you
Across the world Or just across the town Your friends can be my friends Can’t wait to sing with them
[BRIDGE] ‘Cause you’ve always been looking out for me And I’ll always … look out for you So gather round, whatever year you’ve had Some traditions are important in a world gone mad
[OUTRO] LA DA DA LA DA DA DA DA

FAWM Aid. Simply wonderful and I imagined every one here on FAWM singing along in the chorus. Mighty feel. 🥰
This song gave me the Clap... I mean in the 2 Hands Way that is! Fun Fun Fun!!! Trumpet sounds Cool and that Mando too. La da da da La da da da
Yup a great anthem for Fawm! This is a great listen top class allround! All the clever touches make this - yup the trumpet is excellent, the Mando the different vocals! that beat and the trumpet outro! Bravo to you all ! i'm already singing it!
Aw this is such a sweet song, definitely captures how I feel about FAWM! There is definitely something to having consistency amid the chaos of everything else, whatever that tradition may be. Wynia sounds awesome on trumpet here but that’s a given lol. I love this outro!!!
I’m trying to finish up my workday and I have to say hearing this made me so happy. I was having a rough to start but this is a fine finish. There’s so much I could say, but really all of you have been a benefit to me and this community if your own unique, talented ways. I appreciate a good song that bring me up. This did it. I’m happy and that’s all I want to say. ((Hugs)) to all of you.
#Meta but, of course, it doesn't have to be about FAWM (but we'll all know that of course it is). This is catchy and happy (love the claps -- I'm a sucker for handclaps -- and the outro). I also love "I know we had plans/ And failed to keep 'em." But now I'm getting weepy, imagining the end of this month . . .
This is a delight. It's a FAWM theme song, the kind we all can sing along to from the terraces / bleachers / stands. Hooky melody, the kind that sounds great sober but better after a couple of pints, overflowing with comraderie and good cheer, and the trumpet gives it a festive touch. I like the decision not to use drums, just human percussion. Winner!
A heartwarming bop. You guys sound great together. Love the message, the instrumentation, the little laughs and whispers.
Definitely a sing-along and a good one at that. We need this one glued to the opening page every year of FAWM!!! It's meta but could be used in other contexts. I'm seeing a movie where the guys make a pledge to meet up every year and here we have the soundtrack. Loving the trumpet. What a great addition to the La Da Da's that end the song perfectly.
Oh I love it when some of my favourite musicians and friends come together. You took the production and arrangement to the max. I would have NOT expected a mandolin solo with trem parts, and a trumpet (could be a bit louder)! I like how the lyrics are FAWM and not FAWM at the same moment. Could also be about friends gathering every year... like my university folks.
