Skirmish: It All Works Out In The E... (@melodic)Liner Notes
Many of the Skirmish Prompts I like get posted in the middle of our night in Europe. This was no exception. So here is a very late entry.
You all know someone like the "Friend" who sings all the verses. They start telling you about a film and despite your protests end up giving you the whole film in summary. Don't you just hate that! Well the narrator in the Choruses does too!
INSTRUMENT: 55 Year Old Yamaha FG 180
Recorded on a ZOOM H1n
Lyrics
Intro: (A) (E) (NC)
(A) You've got to see this movie It is (E) right up your street It (A) starts with this woman And this (F#m) guy she wants to (E) meet He is (D) being so stand-(A)offish But he's really into (E) her And (A) acts as if she disappeared He (E) really wouldn't (A) care!
Don't (D) give me any (A) spoilers I (D) don't want to (A) know If the (D) film is worth (A) seeing I don't need a blow by (E) blow Don't (D) give me any (A) spoilers It (D) drives me round the (A) bend I (F#m) hate it when a friend tells you It (E) all works out in the (A) end
(NC) So, they get (A) caught up in a hurricane While (E) on a business trip Some (A) Caribbean island Where he (F#m) can't give her the (E) slip Crammed to(D)gether in a (A) room People sleeping on the (E) floor How he (A) handles a crisis Makes her (E) love him the (A) more
CHORUS
Then (A) during the storm she senses (E) That he's into her (A) Neither can deny that There's (F#m) really nothing (E) there He can't (D) keep up the (A) act Stops pretending that he's (E) cold You'd (A) love it, I bet you It's (E) Rom-Com solid (A) gold
CHORUS

Giggle. YES! This! Truth! No spoilers!! Your story is well-told, something we all know, and is absolutely fantastic! Absolutely enjoyed every word; great performance! Excellent skirmish!
Cool take on the prompt. Relatable and well told situation. Fantastic authentic singing and playing ✨️
Thanks. Authentic? Yes, no AIs were harmed in the making of that song 😉
Flippin' spoilers! This is my wife. But she always wants to watch it again with me, and she doles out the plot points right before they happen on-screen. I've been forced to implement a gag order.
Great skirmish write with a classic sounding bounce in the melody. Love it!
Glad you like it. My Mrs swears that we have never seen some film that comes on TV and says I must have seen it on my own. Halfway through she will then say: "Oh yes, I remember it now, let's watch another channel". I of course am engrossed in the rewatch by then 😵💫
Ha yes I've met this person. Or the one who watches it with you and says with glee when there's a good bit coming...
Oh yes! I have had films ruined by the likes of them. Also by wisecracks.... I saw "Watership Down" in a cinema. The lights went down and some joker cried our "Read the book... See the film.... Eat the pie!" The cinema collapsed in laughter and you couldn't take the trials and tribulations of the bunnies seriously after that. In key scenes involving the deaths of some bunny, you would hear giggles as someone thought "that's another one for the pie".
Oh dear, annoying as that sounds at the time it has just made me giggle...
Sounds like relationships were a theme for both of us. You’ve got such a distinctive style. You always come up with a cracking song.
Thanks Ruby. I am so glad the muse still visits after 55 years at it.
We are indeed, very lucky. 😃
Haha Yeah I hate that to. I avoid them if I want to see a movie 😂 great take on the prompt. I just put up a European friendly prompt 😂
Oh yes! if i wanted to know i would have read a review! Good observational song! yup gets me annoyed as ell!
Another thing I despise is over praising a film. You know. when a friend says: "Masterpiece. Best film of the decade" etc. You are almost doomed to disappointment at a film if it has been sold as gold.
This is a great chorus that is so relatable and I love how it transitions into the second verse … and then the third! Glad I don’t need to see the film now… brilliant write!
