This song came upon me with an acoustic and I noodled around with it a little at the dinner table, but it came together pretty quickly. I did play the brushes on this and switched to the 15 inch hihats from the 70s, which I think is pretty cool. Playing brushes is something that I need to do more, as it is such a feel. I just love jazz chords and playing on guitar, but I am certainly not there and definitely relied on tone and technique more than actualy jazz progressions. This is called Tribute because I grew up with jazz (bop and hard bop mainly, though some Getz, Tatum, Kenton, Ferguson, and MANY others), and this is probably as close as I will come to jazzy anything this year. It does influence me greatly though. I still listen to a lot of jazz now and am always trying to create those kinds of progressions. As many of you know, my dad @srcoops passed away peacefully with his wife in late January. This was sad, but also sweet. His passing was so peaceful and connected with my mom, who he had been married to for 68 1/2 years. It was a loving end to a loving life. This is my tribute to him. I played: Firefly 335 through a 1968 Fender Bandmaster Gibson SG through a 1968 Fender Bandmaster 65 Hofner 500/6 bass direct Drums, Tambourine

I THINK that my wife would like to sing on this.....

Although you started Febraury with some hard edge rock, listening to the catalogue until now... you have really connected to a wavelength of peace. I love that. Amazing sounds here, and my grandfather was a jazz fan... so your story and the sound you achieved brought me back to memories, too. Beautiful work!
i am sorry to hear about your dad's passing. you were lucky, though, to have him for so long. i lost my dad 30 years ago. it is a fruitless debate to attempt to come to a definition of what constitutes jazz. i had a long argument with wynton marsalis on the subject and we couldnt come close to an agreement. i hear this piece as a wistful interpretation of the multiplicity of things that jazz meant to your dad. and a vocal by your wife would add another dimension to the tribute.
Ha, right! I was just trying to capture some of the vibe, as I am definitely not a jazz player of any sort, nor do I hear the song as jazz. I appreciate the comment and for listening.
I get the jazz progressions, but that guitar sound has a very 'country' atmosphere to it for me (in an Eagles type of way) - Country/Jazz fusion - who knew that was a thing that would work so well?
I think it has a dreamy relaxed feel - I don't hear it as melancholy, I hear it as reflective and soothing. I usually find it hard to pass comment on instrumentals, but this is definitely an exception to that 'rule'.
I agree with you. The jazz that I was referring to was more of the feeling. The rhythm of the bridge is much less jazz than something else. I appreciate your comment and listening!
I'm sure your Dad would have loved this, it's a beautiful piece. Well done mate! x
There's a beautiful sunset in this tune. Thanks.
Yeah the sunset! That’s pretty much what I was feeling. I appreciate the comment!
Lovely piece of music and a fitting tribute. you could hear this with one of his down to earth lyrics !
I’m so sorry about the passing of your dad. This song is somewhat melancholy but also has a hopeful and easy tone, which really captures a feeling of both sad that he’s gone but glad that he had a long life (and a 68+ year marriage, wow!). I enjoyed listening to this while looking out my window into the winter night sky. It was a nice complement to the moment
I love brushes and they were a good choice to lead us into the song. I enjoyed the jazzy bluesy vibe here even though it isn't your usual cup of tea. It sounds like a love song which perfectly describes your dedication. I am sending my condolences to you and your family in this time of loss and remembrance. Take care and be well! <3
