LUCINDA WON'T LET GO

by @conuladh · @crisp1

Liner Notes

Yesterday I saw these lyrics by crisp1 and offered to try putting music to it. Here is the result. I recorded non-stop for 12 minutes, stumbling a lot in the first 8/9 mins. I'm pleased that the final 3 mins sound good enough for now. There are some unplanned lyric and layout changes in the demo #singersongwriter #collab

Doug: Very nice, moody rendition. Really love your guitar work here. Thanks for picking up this lyric!

Lyrics

When she hits replay, there are hits and misses But she keeps recalling mind-bending kisses Lucinda won’t let go

She feels herself getting hotter and hotter As she listens to the sound of boiling water Lucinda won’t let go

(Ch) Lucinda won’t let go Lucinda won't let go Lucinda won't let go But her lover’s gone

The tips of his fingers felt like sticky tape But he yelped like a dog dying to escape Lucinda won’t let go

He grabbed a battered case and the keys to his car Now she’s looking for him in every dive bar Lucinda won’t let go

(Ch)

(Br) On slow nights when outdoor lights Crawled on the bedroom ceiling He touched her in so many ways That left her raw and reeling

(Ch)

Sweet lyrics and a delivery full of heart beat. The sparse guitar really makes the vocals bloom.

Yes! This is really good. I love the pace and the story is drawing me in almost immediately. The name Lucinda is great because it has a percussive sound, too. Well done.

These lyrics raise more questions than they answer (in a good way). The guitar and your vocals fit perfectly. Nice one Paddy!

I noted the lyric and wondered how this would be picked up - Its a really good lyric and the lofi song has tons of heart (and a really good singing voice). I felt pulled into a story which I assume is about two codependent (but not very successful) lovers. Loved the sticky fingers comment although I didnt understand it - I just liked the tactile feeling it gave. Ok it took me into a story about the "apple scruffs". Good song, really nice collaboration with tons of potential to clean it up when the crazy FAWM days are over

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I didn't understand all of the lyrics but they really appealed to me. There are lots of songs that I like but don't understand what the lyrics mean eg Strawberry Fields.

This is a top collab. There's a flow in the lyric that the music gets inside of and inhabits completely. A rare fusion of words and music that is bigger than either one. Some great images, a standout being the first two of the bridge.

Hey, thanks for your comments. I enjoyed working out chords and the music for this. Played Lucinda Williams Blue to capture the feel I wanted. Agree with you the opening lines of the bridge. Crisp1 did a great job,and they are standout lines.

in just a few lines you tell us all we need to know about this doomed relationship as well as the character of the rejected one. i love the brevity of the lyric and the singing, especially on the bridge.

Thank @crisp1 for the lyric. It was random button find and the repetition of Lucinda Won’t Let Go seemed a challenge I had to take up, plus I love Lucinda W. I've just listen to a bunch of you song - loved them. You really have a unique sound. I look forward to more,
