@disarming : Ok. The story behind this is in the notes for the demo version... basically "hedonium" is a hypothetical drug that would make you feel perfect all the time. Philosophers use it take make this argument or that. anyway I wanted to do a full version of this and with the help of @wynia , boy did we. Thanks @wynia for playing the trumpet and learning and singing all these words.
@wynia : I’m so thankful @disarming invited me onto another track; I always love to add trumpet but it was an extra treat to double the vocals here too!
Lyrics
the perfect drug (Hedonium)
I woke up late today but I’ve got nowhere to go.The world’s accelerating but our brains are going slow. Why would we outsource ourselves for simple tasks. They sell us answers when we didn’t even ask.
We tried so hard, and have come so far. We’ve dug this pit and fall in it. We now admit we need to quit. We’re counterfeit.
Some days are grand. Some days we cannot stand but this is life. Many centuries of sick atrocities. How can they treat us like this? They’ve seared their conscience. It repeats itself and only time will tell of how it ends. History’s replete, their songs with no backbeat. I swear they’re heartless and artless with their calves of gold.
Humility in the midst of revelry. We’re drunk and losing skills with technology. AI can be our lord, we’re confounded and numb. MAybe if we take enough hedonium.

Love the contributions of both @disarming and @wynia to make this song. And when it gets to the next to the final verse, I enjoy how the songs slow down and take on a different shape.
oh my this is sooo very very cool! I absolutely love (!) the lyrics and the message and the trumpet makes everything 19 times more urgent,, almost desperate but still in a somewhat hopeful way? we are indeed drunk and losing skills with technology- the whole song feels like a trip on hedonium. amazing!
In my mind, the trumpet is often used by the nation (e.g. NL - my country) itself before big rememberances or rituals. this song feels super important because of that.
I love this. The upbeat tempo, wall of sincerity and strength, it's the heart of folkpunk to touch on these themes but with a tone of resistance. Being outspoken, maybe even angry, but from a place of love. Speaking for something worth fighting for.
I haven't heard the demo but the trumpets and shared voice feels so central and core to this song. Great collaboration!
Omg I love love love this. The chords and the chord runs. The lyrics, the attitude, the arrangement. QUALITY
I loved the original version of this, the guitar and additional vocals adds so much! Loving this folk punk sound!
this is an exciting track, with the ska rhthms and vocals.. brings the punk back into ska. i wish the lyrics had more verses about the possibilities of an AI created drug that would enfold us in perfect pleasure, much like orwell's soma in brave new world. rather, the song focuses on the state of humanity that would require such a drug in order to endure their existence, and that world is aptly described, not only in the lyrics, but in the frantic hysteria of the music.
So fun and fast! Love the acoustic rock approach, so much more rhythmic than if it was just electric guitars. And the addition of trumpet is fab! I'm getting some 'Mariachi El Bronx' vibes with that killer combo. Top Collab you two.
this really moves, and the energy is fantastic. the trumpet was an excellent choice!
